The Canadian Red Cross is helping Albertans who have been affected by wildfires in the Jasper area by the launch of the 2024 Alberta Wildfires Appeal.

According to a press release sent to the Herald by the Canadian Red Cross, donations made will be used for assisting those impacted by wildfires not only in Jasper but also other areas in Alberta.

Donations will be used for immediate and ongoing relief including financial assistance, support to evacuees and the communities hosting them, recovery and resilience efforts in response to the wildfires, as well as supporting community preparedness and risk reduction for future all-hazard disaster events within Alberta.

In addition, the release states that at the request of the city of Edmonton, the Canadian Red Cross is providing assistance to people who have been evacuated from their homes in Jasper by providing accommodations at the Kennedale Site Building No. 2.

Lethbridge and area residents along with residents across the country wishing to make a donation to the 2024 Alberta Wildfires Appeal can do so online at http://www.redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111 or by texting ABFIRES to 45678 to donate $10.
