Taber corn is here, just in time for the long weekend offering Lethbridge residents seven locations to get their corn fix this season from Johnson Fresh Farms.

David Johnson, manager of Johnson Fresh Farms, said compared to last year they are a little behind schedule, but compared to their five-year average they are right on time.

“The corn is looking really good, we had a slow start with the cold wet rainy May and June we had, but with the hot July weather we had the corn is now doing really well,” said Johnson.

He said they began their harvest on Wednesday and they are hoping to have corn until late September, but it is all weather dependent.

“It all depends on the weather in September, if we have a mild weather, if we don’t have a killer frost, snow stays away and we have a nice warm September, we could have corn until the end of the month,” said Johnson.

He added that if the weather changes and the crops are not able to survive, then they will be done for the season.

“Last year we went to Sept. 20, so last year season we started July 19 and went to Sept. 20 and this year we started Wednesday and we are hoping to be able to keep going until the end of Sept. again,” said Johnson.

He said Lethbridge residents can purchase corn at seven different locations across the city starting at 9 a.m. and ideally until 6 p.m. unless the stand sells out before that.

Taber corn stand locations are:

• Movie Mill parking lot

• Exhibition Park Farmers Market

• Nutters parking lot – 920 2A avenue North

• The Onion parking lot – 1702 23 Street North.

• Peavy Mart parking lot – 3010 32 Street South.

• Shell South parking lot – 2730 Mayor Magrath Drive South.

• Shell West parking lot – corner or University Drive and Highlands Road West.

“Our busiest location is the one at the Movie Mill parking lot, usually because it is the easiest for people to get to,” said Johnson.
