Metis singer performing in Lethbridge on Friday

By Alexandra Noad - Lethbridge Herald Local Journalism Initiative Reporter on August 8, 2024.

Kaeley Jade will be performing an intimate evening of stories and song, as well as music from her album Turpentine, this Friday at Theoretically Brewing Company.

Kaeley Jade was born in Fort McMurray and moved to Edmonton when she was seven. She started performing when she was nine years old. Spending her entire child and teenage years on stage led her to get a bachelor’s of fine arts degree from the University of Alberta. She is now a full time actor and singer song-writer.

In 2022 Jade released her album Turpentine, which allowed her to win “Indigenous Songwriter of the Year” at the Canadian Folk Music Awards bak in April.

Jade is currently on her cross Canada tour and she says she’s very excited to play in Lethbridge for the first time.

“I’ve never yet played in Lethbridge, so it’s been somewhere that I kind of tried to line up last summer, but it didn’t work out. I was really excited to finally have the chance to kind of head down south and play for a new audience there,” said Jade.

Jade says people can expect an intimate evening of both stories and song as well as music from Turpentine this Friday.

“I think that they can look forward to a really nice intimate evening of story and song from myself and my guitarist Gabriel Gagnon,” said Jade.

She added she will be giving a sneak peak of her new songs which will be recorded soon.

Genna Bourchier, Theoretically Brewing Company event and marketing coordinator, says Theoretically Brewery hosts a variety of musical acts throughout the summer on their outdoor stage.

“We have a permanent outdoor stage, which is quite a bit larger than our indoor space, so we’re able to welcome a variety of musical acts,” said Bourchier.

Boucher added Theoretically Brewing Company likes to book Alberta-based artists with a variety of genres.

“We work quite diligently to book a diverse variety of local musicians, local to Lethbridge and local to Alberta specifically.

We really try to highlight and amplify musicians that don’t have a place mainstream venues. We try and book, you know, a wide variety of genres, a wide variety of musicians,” said Bourchier.

Local talent Kai Brooks will also be performing as an opening act. Bouchier says both Jade and Brook’s sounds blend together well.

“They both have really complementary sounds to each other, very like, beautiful singer songwriter emotionally and folky music, we thought they’d be a really good pair together,” said Bourchier.

While enjoying the music, people can enjoy one of the brewery’s handcrafted English or experimental ales.

“There’s sort of a whole variety of things. We like to try and make the rotating hops with as much diversity in flavor and diversity in type of beer possible, but there’s something for everyone,” said Bourchier.

The doors will open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30. Tickets will be $10 at the door. Bouchier does recommend people show up early as the shows do tend to sell out.
