Fundraiser concert set for dog rescue group

By Justin Seward - Lethbridge Herald on August 23, 2024.

The Paws for a Cause – A Cabaret of Theatre Gems benefit concert is being hosted by local musicians to help raise funds for the Windy City Canine Rescue on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Casa community room.

“Some of my colleagues, and friends and I were discussing at the beginning of the summer that we wanted to do a concert this year and we wanted to make it a charity benefit concert,” said Jaimee Jarvie, concert organizer.

“We did some digging and we looked into charities in the city that we really felt we believed in and Windy City Canine Rescue really stood out to us, and so, we reached out to them and the rest is history.”

It was during discussions from both sides that the rescue had mentioned that 2023 was a record year for adoptions.

“They’re really saving a lot of these animals and all of us musicians are animal lovers, and so we felt really strongly about teaming up with them and trying to raise some money for what they’re doing.”

Singers include baritone Tanner Lapointe, sopranos Jarvie and Sophia Makela and tenor Isaac Gokarn.

Special guests from University of Lethbridge’s musical conservatory include Charlotte Goldthorp, Isaac Morphis and Nathan Morphis.

Attendees will get to enjoy a mix of musical theatre and cabaret hits.

“It’s a really fun night of staged pieces,” said Jarvie.

“You get to kind of watch (the) scene in front of you and it’s really exciting.”

Tickets can be purchased through a link on the Windy City Canine Rescue Facebook page.

A monetary donation can be made on the ticket website if you can’t attend the concert.

There will be door prizes up for grabs and Windy City merchandise will be available for purchase.

All the proceeds will go to the rescue.

Windy City Canine Rescue focuses on giving dogs second chance through their volunteers since 2010.

The plan is to host a benefit concert every summer.
