Neudorf in U.S. to promote Alberta’s energy sector

Provincial Minister of Affordability and Utilities Nathan Neudorf is in the U.S. this week in an effort to advance Alberta’s energy sector

Chantelle de Jonge, parliamentary secretary for Affordability and Utilities along with Shane Getson, who is the parliamentary secretary for Economic Development Corridor, are also stateside promoting Alberta energy to industry leaders and partners.

Neudorf, who is also the MLA for Lethbridge East, travelled to Austin, Texas on Sunday and on Monday met with government representatives, as well as industry. Today, he’s scheduled to meet with the Public Utility Commission of Texas as well as the Association of Electric Companies of Texas.

On Wednesday Neudorf will meet with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas and industry representatives before heading to Tulsa, Oklahoma. There, Neudorf along with de Jonge and Getson will attend the Energy Council’s 2024 meeting for three days before returning to Alberta.

Getson is scheduled to be in Dickinson, North Dakota today and Wednesday to participate in the Port To Plains Alliance 2024 annual conference before joining Neudorf and de Jonge in Oklahoma.

In Texas, Neudorf is discussing with the representatives from the state’s utility market common challenges, solutions and technological developments within their respective jurisdictions.

In Oklahoma, elected legislators from Alberta, Saskatchewan and 14 energy-producing states will have an opportunity to “promote the reliability, affordability and safety of Alberta’s energy products, as well as the importance of the province’s energy sector to North American and global energy security,” says a government press release.

“This is an excellent opportunity to connect with key players in Texas’ energy market to discuss common challenges and solutions as we continue to modernize Alberta’s electrical system. I am also looking forward to attending the Energy Council’s 2024 annual meeting to reinforce Alberta’s role as a leader in responsible energy development,” said Neudorf.

“Alberta relies on the free flow of trade and investment for its economic prosperity. That is why working with our partners to reduce barriers and bring transparency and consistency to trade across this important region is so important. I am excited to engage with U.S. legislators and officials so we can ensure Alberta’s industries have access to the market opportunities they need to thrive – broadening our commercial ties with certainty and forging bonds with job creators across the continent,” added Getson in the release.
