Every Thanksgiving the Lethbridge Corn Maze uses money raised from admission to support a good cause.

Theo Slingerland, co-owner of the maze, says this tradition began 25 years ago, but this year was special.

“This last Monday we did a fundraiser for a friend of ours who is from Cameroon that was diagnosed with cancer and could not afford her medical bills,” said Slingerland.

Slingerland added his wife is a cancer survivor, so the cause really hit home for him.

A total of $20,000 dollars was raised. Slingerland is extremely grateful for the support and plans on continuing the yearly tradition.

“We’ve been doing it for 25 years and I don’t see a reason to change it,” said Slingerland.

The maze is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and Slingerland says he decided to make it in one of his favourite designs that he did previously – a spiderweb.

“Of course, I did not do the same design, but it was still a spider web,” said Slingerland.

There is fun for the entire family there with a large maze, a kids maze and a trivia maze as well as many photo-friendly set ups to get the perfect fall photo and a petting zoo for the animal lovers.

Slingerland says the maze tries to add new attractions every year.

“It’s been growing steadily, and we have also expanded our farm itself. (This year) we put in the jumping pillow and did some more photo ops,” said Slingerland.

The maze will be open Monday to Saturday until November. More information can be found at http://www.lethbridgecornmaze.com.
