Now in its 65th year of operation, the Green Acres Foundation continues to provide affordable housing solutions for seniors in Southern Alberta.

A report presented to city council on Tuesday noted that inflation in 2024 not only impacted people on fixed incomes. including Green Acres residents. but also staff who saw their costs rise at well.

But the report says the foundation worked to control costs and a survey showed 96 per cent of residents were satisfied with their living environments, 99 per cent were satisfied with meals and 98 per cent felt safe in their buildings.

The finalization of a land purchase last year in the Crossings will enable the foundation to construct a an affordable housing complex in  the future, says the report which also notes that planning is underway for a seniors housing complex in Coaldale.

Council voted unanimously to accept the report as information.

The report notes that the average monthly fee for an apartment is $733 per month while expenses for each are $760.

The average age of residents in apartments is 77 while 84 is the average age of people in lodge suits.

The average monthly fee for a lodge suite is $1,887 with monthly expenses being $2,342.

Resident rent accounts for 45 per cent of foundation revenue with Alberta Health Services health care funding providing 23 per cent. The other 32 per cent of revenue comes from grants, investment income, requisitions, lodge  assistance grant and donation revenue.
