This week marks Seniors Week and to celebrate, Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre has plenty of activities to keep members engaged, entertained and fed.
After a successful and fun jam session and darts tournament on Monday, and a Toonie Pancake Breakfast and a discussion about travel on Tuesday at Nord-Bridge, members had the opportunity to gather outdoors on Wednesday, to attend the Annual BBQ Picnic at the Rotary Picnic Shelter in the North Lethbridge Sports Park.
Members in attendance had the opportunity to listen to the Nord-Bridge Jammers and enjoy a variety of snacks to accompany their burgers and hotdogs.
David Ng, executive director of Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre, said they have been celebrating seniors and everything they have done for the community for decades.
“They have supported the province through working and volunteering, so this is a week to celebrate them and at Nord-Bridge we want to highlight that volunteerism through the many activities that we have for them this week,” said Ng.
He said that this was the fifth year doing the barbecue at the Rotary Picnic Shelter in the North Lethbridge Sports Park and it continues to be very well attended.
“We used to do it at Pavan Park along the river and it was beautiful, but this is better. But as long as we have food, music, and good weather, seniors will come in droves,” said Ng.
When talking about Seniors Week, Ng said it is important to celebrate seniors because they have done so much for our community and Nord-Bridge has been doing that since 2001 in their current location by offering a variety of activities every year during the first week of June.
“It’s another way for us to give thanks to them for everything they have done to support our community through everything they have done,” said Ng.
He added that this year the barbecue was once again a success, and even though the turnout was slightly less than last year, he estimates they had approximately 225 people.
The celebrations will continue Friday with an afternoon Bingo open to the public for anyone 18 years old and up, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. with prizes to be won.
