The annual Magrath Days celebration weekend kicked off Thursday night with a rodeo and concert from local talent Trevor Panczak.

While the Magrath Agriculture Society has held a rodeo during the weekend celebration, this is the first year they held a concert in the Magrath Agriculture Arena.

Eileen Juhasz, president of the Magrath Ag Society, says she was ecstatic about the turnout.

“The crowd was into it; they were there cheering (and) they stayed until the bitter end.”

The rodeo consisted of both barrel racing and roping events, providing entertainment for all who attended.

Shelbi Wakefield, another board member, suggested to bring hometown boy Trevor Panczak on the stage to kick of the ag society’s inaugural year of “Band in the Sand,” where spectators were encouraged to bring lawn chairs and kick up their boots along with some dirt.

Juhasz says Panczak was thrilled to play for a hometown crowd.

“We got in touch with Trevor and he was over the moon to com and do it for us and he was really excited to come back to his hometown.”

Magrath Days is a weekend celebration held on the last weekend of July each year. Along with a rodeo, there will also be a parade at 11 a.m. this morning and an afternoon full of activities for young and old to enjoy.

The Magrath Golf Course is also celebrating its 100th anniversary with discounted tee times and a mixed golf scramble.

The evening will conclude with a fireworks show at the soccer field on the edge of town.

Juhasz says many come far and wide to return to their roots during the hometown celebrations.
