Pure Power Wrestling and Lethbridge & District Exhibition are partnering once again to bring Hot Summer Night to Whoop-Up Days for the third year in a row.

The event will take place at the Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. and will bring southern Alberta’s top professional wrestling circuit into the heart of the fair.

“We love having Pure Power Wrestling at Whoop Up Day and it just adds so much to the fair. There is such a long history of professional wrestling being part of fairs, and Pure Power Wrestling is on of the best independent productions out there,” says Paul Kingsmith, Director of Event Development with Lethbridge & District Exhibition.

He adds that the relationship between both organizations has grown and PPW now counts Whoop Up Days as one of their top events of the year.

Pure Power Wrestling was founded in 2010. Based in Lethbridge, the organization has hosted events throughout southern Alberta and southeastern B.C.

“To work with a local company and put up events like this, we love to do even more of it,” says Kingsmith.

Hot Summer Night will be headlined by a knock-‘em-down, drag-‘em-out Bunkhouse Brawl match between Tyler “Hard” Knox and “The Last Jerk Standing” Joshua Kirby.

A Bunkhouse Brawl match is a wild, no-rules street fight where anything goes. The match was made official with a contract signing at the Agri-food Hub & Trade Centre on July 31.

Knox says that he hopes people that have never been to one of their matches, get an opportunity to experience the show during Whoop Up days.

“We are hoping to get a bunch of people who have not been to wrestling, or have not been to in a while, to come to our regular shows,” says Knox.

It was revealed during the media event on Thursday that Knox and Kirby have a score to settle, and Knox told reporters that the beef is due to a betrayal.

“Josh and I have been connected since I first started wrestling. We were rivals, we became tag team partners, and I thought he was my best friend,” says Knox. “When I got hurt he abandoned me.”

Other star-studded matches will feature PPW Champion Travis “The Heat” Copeland, Sydney Steele, Dewey Robson, Brady Blaze and more.

Pure Power Wrestling’s Hot Summer Night is a ticketed event within Whoop-Up Days. Advanced priced general admission tickets are $22, youth tickets for those between 6-10 are $15, and children 5 and under are free. All tickets include same-day admission to Whoop-Up Days.
