After a successful first year in 2024, Thunder in the Bridge is looking to take the next step in 2025.
The concert is scheduled to take place in the parking lot of the VisitLethbridge.com Arena on Sept. 5-6
Sacha Johnson, events co-ordinator for the VisitLethbridge.com Arena, says the event fills a niche in Lethbridge that wasn’t present before.
“There wasn’t the outdoor festival type event in the city. We thought we’d maximize on that when all the students come back and all the people are back to work and stretch that summer summer vibes. They created that last year and it was very successful.”
With the concert running over two days, the event will feature two different genres of music. Friday, Sept. 5 will be all about country music with performances from local artists Eric Braun, Luke James Bruce and Brody Jerome.
The headline country acts are Seaforth, Lauren Watkins and Josh Ross.
Saturday night will be all about rock music, with local acts from the Cannonball Knights, Paul Kype and Texas Flood along with One Last Life.
Headlining the rock acts are JJ Wilde, The Trews and The Glorious Sons.
Johnson says the genres of country and rock were chosen for Thunder in the Bridge because of the strong support both have in the community.
“I think it captures Lethbridge to a T, to be honest. We have a large country following of our concerts and a large rock following as well. We thought when we set up our Sept. 5 lineup we’d have a country day starting with some exposure of our local talent. There’s some bands that are from around here, younger up and coming bands that we want to kick off our festival with.”
With one event under their belt, there will be some changes for the 2025 version. Johnson says the changes were made with the goal of limiting crowds and lines in order to let patrons enjoy more of the concert.
“We’ve identified quite a few things. Traffic flow, entrance flow and tickets. Before, you’d go up and buy your beverage or alcohol but now it’ll all be tokens so you have one stop you pre-buy whatever you’re anticipating to drink and then you would get it just as a token wherever at whatever beer tub or concession that you’d want it.
“We have 10 food trucks coming to complement our existing concessions. There will be a local feel as well for food trucks if people want to eat or drink from there. Bring your lawn chair, the weather’s supposed to be amazing. We’re looking to extend the summer holiday a little bit and one last party before we get back to reality.”
Tickets for Thunder in the Bridge can be purchased in advance at thunderinthebridge.ca or in person at the event.
