With students heading back to school on Tuesday, the Lethbridge School Division is ready to welcome them, and to open the doors of their newest elementary school.Â
Christine Light, board chair, said there is a boost of energy around the division knowing students are back soon.Â
“When students arrive back in our buildings, they give life to our spaces and I certainly know that staff is excited to connect with students,” said Light.Â
She said the division hosted a welcome back breakfast on Friday to formally kick-off the school year at Chinook High School.Â
“And on Sept. 2, West Coulee Station Elementary School will welcome students for the first time, so we are definitely excited for those doors to open for our community members and we have a grand opening set for Sept. 12,” said Light.Â
She said they are excited for the opening of the new elementary school as it will allow students and staff to foster creativity, innovation and community in their learning spaces.Â
And with a threat of a teacher strike looming in the air, Light said that the division recognizes that parents may have questions about the provincial bargaining process and they are committed to a provide answers as they become available to them.Â
“We recognize they have questions on how they may impact families and the running of our schools, and at this time we are not aware of any actions that may impact our operations, so we are excited to welcome students back on Tuesday,” said Light.Â
She said that like every other division across the province, they are hopeful that a deal can be made, and they highly value the contributions of all of their employees throughout the division to ensure they are able to provide a high-quality education to all of their students.Â
“We are committed to provide information as it becomes available and it can be found in the division’s website,” said Light.Â
