One person is in custody after Lethbridge Police Service blocked off a street in the Sunridge neighbourhood on Wednesday afternoon to deal with what was described as a high-risk incident.
Nearly five hours after police issued a request to people to avoid the  area, they said the incident had been resolved.
Police blocked southbound traffic on Sundial Court West as well as an alleyway as they tried to convince a person inside a two-storey grey home to surrender.
A police drone flew overhead monitoring the situation as several neighbours – who were asked to shelter inside – watched from the street.
One neighbour said police had visited the rental home on previous occasions but the reasons weren’t clear. Another said the landlord had  been told about a security alarm sometimes going off, keeping residents awake.
Police at one point appeared to use a battering ram to break open the front door of the residence and on multiple times could be heard telling the person inside he or she was under arrest.
The incident unfolded a couple of blocks south of Sunridge Boulevard. The site is also a relatively short distance from Senator Joyce  Fairbairn Middle School.
