A 34-year-old male charged with manslaughter, uttering threats, and theft under $5,000 in connection with the death of an elderly male in October 2025, and who has been in custody since September, 2025 appeared in Lethbridge Court via CCTV Friday.

Cameron Jordon Hamilton appeared in court on different charges stemming from two incidents that took place prior to the manslaughter incident, but the time served since his arrest in September was applied to those two charges instead.

The charges stem from incidents involving the theft of a white Dodge Ram 2500 bearing City Yard Works markings on the side on July 26, 2025, and a shoplifting incident at a 7Eleven store on Aug. 20, 2025.

Hamilton pleaded guilty to both charges and when it was time for sentencing, Justice Peterson acknowledge that Hamilton has been in custody since Sept. 10, 2025, which counted as 120 days of incarceration.

As a global sentencing for both charges, Justice Peterson sentenced him to 300 days of incarceration and asked the defence attorney about “in custody days.”

“Your intention is to apply in custody days to these two offences rather than having them accumulate with respect to the other offence (manslaughter charge)?” said Justice Peterson.

To this, the defence attorney said yes, and Justice Peterson proceeded to explain how that would work out.

The 120 pre-trail custody days already served when enhancement factor is applied totaled 180 days to be applied to the global sentencing of 300 days for both charges, which leaves a balance of 120 days of incarceration starting on Jan. 16, 2025, for those specific charges.

Hamilton has been in custody since Sept. 10, 2025, in relation to the incident that led to his manslaughter charges.

On Sept. 10 around noon, police and EMS responded to a report of an injured elderly male along the 1200 block of 2A Avenue North. Investigation determined the senior’s bike had been stolen from outside a business and when he confronted the male subject a physical altercation ensued.

The subject punched the 80-year-old male causing him to fall backward and strike his head on the pavement. He then fled the scene prior to police arrival.

EMS transported the 80-year-old victim to Chinook Regional Hospital and due to the extent of his injuries he was airlifted to Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

Later in the day the subject who was identified as Hamilton, called dispatch to turn himself in and was subsequently arrested without incident at a northside home.

Hamilton was initially charged with aggravated assault stemming from the incident on Sept. 10, but after the victim succumbed to his injuries on Oct. 9 at the Foothills Hospital, the charge was upgraded to manslaughter.

Hamilton will appear in court for his manslaughter charges on Feb. 4, 2026.
