The Friends of Lethbridge Public Library will be hosting a book sale once again, but this time only of Fiction books.
With over 300 boxes of Fiction books, Barbara Gibson, director of the Friends of Lethbridge Public Library Booktique says there will be plenty to choose from.
“This sale will showcase general fiction, mystery, romance, science fiction, fantasy, young adult fiction, graphic novels, westerns, classics, and foreign language novels,” says Gibson.
She says that just like in previous book sales, this sale will allow buyers to purchase a standard grocery shopping bag of books for just $5.
“Customers are encouraged to bring their own shopping bags, but please be aware that oversized bags will be priced accordingly,” says Gibson.
She says they are hosting this event to raise money for the Lethbridge Public Library, while also providing an opportunity for residents to find affordable books.
“These are books that have either been donated to the library, or they have been de-selected,” says Gibson.
wShe explains that when the library has new stock, they de-select books, meaning they take them off their shelves to make room for their new books and some of those are being sold this weekend.
“We get together every Monday and go through what’s been handed to us. We sort it, box it up and get it ready for a sale like this one,” says Gibson.
She says thanks to events like this one, the Friends of Lethbridge Public Library have been able to raise over $1 million to benefit the patrons ofW the library for over 30 years.
In the last year alone, they were able to fund Makerspace equipment including a 3D printer, computer, and serger sewing machine, a Makerspace cart at the Crossings Branch, adjustable height computer tables, a program supply cupboard, the StorySpot mural, artificial plants and display cases for the stairwell, meeting room tables and storage carts, and they are the Word on the Street Festival Title Sponsor.
To make events like the book sale, Gibson says it requires a lot of help from others and she says they are lucky to have lots of help.
“It takes a lot of volunteers to do this, and I really want to give a shout out to all those people that are helping out with the sale,” says Gibson. “The friends board is getting up there in years. We can’t do as much heavy lifting as we used to, so the help is very appreciated.”
The book sale will take place in the Theatre Gallery of the Main Branch of the Lethbridge Public Library on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
