Ag Expo has become an international affair this year showcasing agriculture technologies from across Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia.

Ag Expo opened its doors Wednesday morning and will run until Friday at the Lethbridge Trade & Convention Centre. Just before opening the doors, director of event development with Excite Lethbridge, Paul Kingsmith spoke to media and said he could not wait to see the community take part in the event after all the hard work that has gone into it.

“This is the good part, you’ve done planning for months and months, we’re about to open the doors and see it all come together,” said Kingsmith. “We’ve got three days of a sold-out show where we’re going to be bringing in people from across the region and beyond to celebrate agriculture, see the latest technologies and help to move the industry forward.”

Ag Expo continues to grow as 310 exhibitors are in this year’s show, with more than 258,000 square feet of space being used to showcase the very latest in agriculture equipment and technology.

“At Ag Expo, agriculture professionals from around the region have the opportunity to see the newest and latest technologies from around the world and learn how they can be adapted into their practices here at home,” said Kingsmith.

When talking about how different this year’s show is, Kingsmith said Ag Expo continues to grow and they continue to find ways to fit even more vendors and machinery.

“Every square inch we’ve evaluated what we can fit in there and found a way to cram it in. We want to make sure that as many businesses within the industry are represented as possible. We expanded our outside sections,” said Kingsmith.

He said for people that have come to Ag Expo for decades, the machinery row was a big part of it, and they brought it back last year, but this year it is even bigger.

“We’ve got over 20 exhibitors outside in the South parking lot, some more exhibitors on the north side, so we’re just keep on expanding their footprint,” said Kingsmith.

Ag Expo is also showcasing the 129th North American Seed Fair located in the lobby of the north entrance.

“I’ve said it before, but this is what this building was built for. Ag Expo was in mind when construction started and being able to get massive combines. You see it in here and it puts in perspective what the industry is really like out there,” said Kingsmith.

He explained there are interactive displays, with people showcasing the technology they’re using to help sell their products.

Ag Expo show manager, Suzanne Bielert, said some of the technology on display at the show includes SenseSpray, a precision spot sprayer technology out of Australia, a new grain cart out of Iowa and the West Coast Robotics Autonomous irrigation system which is also new.

“We have such a vibrant agriculture community here between the irrigation, the excellent soil and the growing season, this is a hotbed for agriculture,” said Bielert.

She said they have vendors that represent the various areas across the agriculture sector and their objective is to have farmers attend and look at the technologies they can apply on their farm to increase their productivity, their proficiency, and to stay up to date with technology.

“We want the most proficient way to feed our province, our country, and the world. Ag Expo it’s a one stop shop, you can come in, look at the big equipment, talk to the reps, get support if you’re having issues with your equipment or your products, and you get to connect with everybody else in the industry,” said Bielert.
