Lethbridge Police have upgraded the charges against 56-year-old Joseph Cameron Brewster, from impaired driving causing bodily harm, to impaired driving causing death, after a 78-year-old male succumbed to his injuries.
On March 2 just before 4 p.m., police responded to a report of a pedestrian collision at the intersection of 13 Street and 3 Avenue North. Where a 78-year-old male pedestrian was transported by ambulance to Chinook Regional Hospital with significant head injuries, and later transferred to Calgary.
LPS shared last week that the investigation determined a Dodge Ram truck was travelling eastbound on 3 Avenue then proceeded to turn southbound on 13 Street, colliding with the elderly pedestrian.
LPS also shared that the driver, Brewster, displayed signs of impairment and following further investigation was subsequently charged.
On Tuesday, a week after the incident, LPS shared that on March 6, they were notified that unfortunately the elderly pedestrian has succumbed to his injuries, and therefore Brewster’s charges were upgraded.
Brewster is now charged with impaired driving causing death and driving over .08. He is scheduled to appear in court April 29.
