LANSDOWNE, ONT. — Canada’s new fentanyl czar Kevin Brosseau says he will bring an “intensity” to efforts to eliminate the scourge of fentanyl on both sides of the border.
Touring a border point near Lansdowne, Ont. on his first day on the job, the former senior Mountie says his mandate is to bring people together, to integrate the work and to produce results.
Brosseau spent more than 20 years with the RCMP and more recently was deputy national security and intelligence adviser to the prime minister.
He says that if he could send a message to U.S. President Donald Trump, it would be that his appointment demonstrates how seriously Canada takes the fentanyl crisis.
Brosseau spoke alongside Public Safety Minister David McGuinty, who said cool heads and a disciplined approach should prevail as Canada faces the threat of hefty U.S. tariffs on all goods exported to the United States.
The minister says tariffs would be a lose-lose scenario for both countries.

Time will tell if this is all a facade for Trump! What happen to the mantra “we can’t arrest our way out of this” or “we can’t win the war on drugs” ??
We have seen in the last 10 years just how well that worked out! We have a dramatic increase in all the related issues increased organized crime brings such as: human trafficking, prostitution, child pornography, gun smuggling, chop shops for vehicles/bikes, stolen goods brokers, thefts, break and enters, property damage, home invasions, fraud and much more! Organized crime has embedded itself well into BC, where money laundering flourishes to much it impacts real estate prices, and somehow it appears government decisions appear to benefit organized crime, not the public.
I do not support tariffs, but by Trump threatening Canada to clean up its drug problem, this will only be good for Canada and Canadians.
Funny that one RCMP Superintendant stated that the cartels were not a problem in one interview, while other RCMP leadership state they are in Canada and have a foothold in areas, including the major drug labs that were busted, that shipped Meth and Fentanyl to countries like Australia and New Zealand, where it sells for 8 times the price. In one of those reports it also showed how our railcars coming into Canada were not being checked and most of the sea containers in our ports, where they stated the Hell’s Angels have union workers at those ports overseeing illegal cargo.
We have a huge problem that has been allowed to grow in this country and I am happy Trump is pressuring Canada to once again be responsible!
This is one of many investitative reports which shows just a few of the issues:
