Ontario Greens unveil platform, pledge to build two million homes, cut taxes

By Canadian Press on February 12, 2025.

TORONTO — Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner says his party will commit to building two million homes, cut taxes for low- and middle-income earners and create a “foodbelt” to protect farmland should they win the upcoming Ontario election.

The Greens unveiled a fully costed platform today, the first main political party to do so as the halfway point of the campaign nears.

The party would also provide free heat pumps to households earning under $100,000 and zero-interest loans for those with larger incomes to get their own.

Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie pledged this morning to end hallway health care, in part by paying nurses and personal support workers more and ensuring wage parity across the entire system.

Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford remains in Washington, D.C., in his capacity as Ontario premier, as he attempts to head off looming American tariffs, while NDP Leader Marit Stiles has no public events today.

Ford has justified calling the snap election set for Feb. 27 by saying he needs an even bigger mandate to deal with four years of U.S. President Donald Trump.
