Liberals turn to transition plans after Mark Carney wins leadership

OTTAWA — Liberal MPs are gathering on Parliament Hill this afternoon to huddle after the party chose former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney as its new leader.
Carney is heading into a day full of briefings and in the coming days will need to be sworn in as prime minister, choose his cabinet and sort out his party’s battle plans for the coming federal election — but the exact timeline for all these things remains unclear.
An early election call is widely expected within days or weeks of Carney being installed as prime minister, as the Liberal party looks to take advantage of the polling momentum it has enjoyed in recent weeks.
Like Justin Trudeau before him and even Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, Carney won a resounding mandate from the party base — ultimately capturing 86 per cent of the vote.
Carney’s main rival Chrystia Freeland came in a distant second and said after the event that she always knew it would be an uphill battle, since the party establishment rallied around Carney’s candidacy.
A breakdown of the leadership vote results released by the Liberal party shows that Carney beat his rivals in their own ridings — by wide margins.
Freeland won 188 votes in her riding of University—Rosedale — Carney netted 1,322 votes there — while Gould won 190 votes to Carney’s 818 in her Burlington riding.
Frank Baylis, who came in fourth, came the closest to Carney on his home turf, taking 130 votes in his former riding of Pierrefonds—Dollard to Carney’s 247.
Carney swept every single riding across the country through the points-based system, taking in a total of 29,456 points. Each riding was worth 100 points and Carney scored higher than 60 points in each one.
A big part of Freeland’s strategy throughout the race was to reach out to Liberal members in rural ridings not currently held by the Liberal party. The strategy failed; she won only 2,728 points.
Freeland’s highest individual point score for an electoral district was the 25 points she took in the rural Quebec riding of Côte-Nord—Kawawachikamach — Nitassinan, currently held by the Bloc Québécois.
Carney led in caucus and cabinet endorsements throughout the race, but many Liberals also endorsed Freeland — including Justice Minister Arif Virani, Health Minister Mark Holland and Fisheries Minister Diane Lebouthillier, and MPs such as Ben Carr, Anthony Housefather and Marie-Claude Bibeau.
The Conservatives slammed the result as a coronation and Poilievre called it a “sneaky” move for the Liberals to swap Trudeau with Carney in an attempt to win a fourth mandate.

For those of us who have followed this race for leadership, Mr. Carney has misled many.
Example: In BC he stated he would use emergency powers to push through pipelines. In Quebec he stated he will not impose a pipeline on Quebec without agreement! Both statements made within days of each other, so which is it?
Canada is doomed if we continue down this same Liberal-NDP path we have followed in the last decade that has doubled our National debt from $750 billion to $1.3 trillion, so my great great great grandkids will be paying for this.
Our Canadian Armed Forces have been devastated by several decades of slashed budgets from the Liberals to a point we cannot even defend our own soil and will likely lose part of Canada in the North as China, Russia and the US move on it! If we started to purchase the subs, ships, the aircraft, other military kit and our military personnel, it would take at least 10 years to achieve and we are facing evil now, with by definition we are in WW III and it is going to get worse as several countries move on other countries.
Our country has never been as divided and full of unrest as we are today! Multiculturalism has failed as we see ethnic groups rise up against others, with one particular group, funded by Hamas, and other terrorist entities such as the Muslim Brotherhood, burns our flag, calling for death to Canada and death to the Jews. This is what the Liberal-NDP government has done to our country! We took in 5,000 Gazans who were brainwashed from birth the hate!
Hate the Jews and Hate the West! They were taught in school to Hate! All they know is war and Hate! But now they are here and they are bringing more hate, conflict and turmoil to our streets! Thank you Liberals!
But what would you expect when Trudeau spent more time on the plane flying to other countries or vacationing at his Muslim buddies properties. He was more concerned about building up friendships that would destroy Canada, than building up our country to be a great Nation once again!
I say this from all of his actions that have negatively impacted us to a point our own sovereignty is threatened!
Unfortunately, Ontario and Quebec will vote the Liberal-NDP coalition back into government again, because no one has paid attention in the last 10 years and the silver tongued Liberals-NDP are/have duped Canadians once again into elected them, with a new leader but same policies, with some hidden such as the carbon tax.
Trudeau somehow stayed in power after many, many questionable practises!
-His cozy relationship to the Chinese that saw Peoples Liberation Army of China officers training in Petawawa, our special operations base until our military leadership firmly said NO MORE to Trudeau! In 2021, Trudeau and cabinet abstaining from China Uighurs genocide vote. The PMO was given reports from intelligence officials on the meddling as early as 2017, including warnings that candidates may be part of Chinese interference attempts, but allegedly ignored the warnings.
-The Aga Khan Affair, throwing intense scrutiny on the PM’s infamous eight-day 2016 Christmas vacation at the Bahamian private island owned by the now-late spiritual leader of the Isma’ili Muslims — a close, personal friend of Pierre Trudeau.
–The Trudeau Liberals’ support of a non-binding U.N. resolution calling on Israel to cease operations in Gaza after Oct. 7 prompted Hamas leader Ghazi Hamad to issue a video statement thanking Canada for their support.
Funding continued to the UNRWA, even though evidence proved that those funds were going to Hama . . . Canadian taxpayer dollars funding terrorism!

Allowing Canada to become a country of addictions and open drug use with policies that enable and encourage drug use!
