Prairie canola producers brace for 100 per cent tariffs from China

CALGARY — Canola farmers on the Prairies are bracing for impact as China prepares to impose hefty tariffs on the industry.
China is expected to enact a 100 per cent levy on Canadian canola oil and meal starting Thursday.
The tariffs are a response to Canada’s 100 per cent tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles and 25 per cent tax on aluminum and steel products.
In response, governments in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba want action from Ottawa to support farmers.
The federal government says China’s tariffs are unjustified, but it has not announced any concrete plans to help canola farmers.
A sweeping majority of Canada’s canola production occurs across the three Prairie provinces.

Wake up Canada . . . stop trading with China! You are financing them to build up their military for world dominance!
In 2005 I was laughed at for warning people of the growing China problem as I watched them building diesel electric attack submarines which ran quiet and could stay subsuface for up to 30 days, and could travel under our Arctic ice easily and they planned on dominance of the South China sea . . . they are not laughing now!
Where did China get all of money to build up their military? North America . . . we built up their economy and several times Xi has stated he is focused on world dominance and the BRICS alliance proves those plans have grown to several continents.
We cannot try to increase trade with China to compensate for lost US trade.
We are committing sovereign suicide!
Please . . . find new markets, build on them and avoid trade with China! Remember also that Trump’s term is less than 4 years now, if he lasts that long!
