OTTAWA — Israeli Ambassador to Canada Iddo Moed says he met with senior officials from the foreign affairs ministry yesterday after Israeli soldiers fired warning shots near a diplomatic tour in the West Bank that included four Canadians.
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand issued a formal summons to the ambassador to discuss yesterday’s incident, which ended without injuries.
Anand said in a social media post that four Canadian officials were part of the tour in the West Bank city of Jenin.
Moed says that he won’t discuss what happened in the closed-door meeting with officials.
A spokesperson for Anand’s office says it has nothing more to add to what the minister posted on social media yesterday.
Moed says Israel will be transparent as it investigates the incident and while there was “no need” for the summons, that decision was up to the Canadian government.
