Quebec Liberal crisis: Leader Pablo Rodriguez convenes his caucus in Montreal

By Canadian Press on November 21, 2025.

QUÉBEC — Quebec Liberal Leader Pablo Rodriguez has convened his caucus for a meeting in Montreal this afternoon as the party is rocked by twin crises.

Rodriguez suspended Marwah Rizqy from caucus earlier this week, claiming she had fired the chief of staff of the official Opposition without consulting him.

Rizqy and the former staffer, Geneviève Hinse, have reportedly exchanged legal letters and the matter is likely heading to the courts.

Media outlet 98.5 Montréal says Rizqy’s legal letter to Hinse says she was dismissed due to significant ethical breaches as well as repeated acts of insubordination.

The Canadian Press has not confirmed the content of the letter.

Hinse has said that nothing justifies her dismissal and that Rizqy – the Liberals’ former leader in the legislature – never explained the decision to fire her.

The other crisis to hit the Liberals came on Wednesday, when Quebecor reported that some party members were paid to vote for Rodriguez in the leadership campaign.

The former federal cabinet minister has said he has nothing to hide and has asked the president of the Liberals to investigate the allegations.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 21, 2025.
