Quebec anti-corruption unit launches investigation of provincial Liberals

By Canadian Press on December 10, 2025.

MONTREAL — Quebec’s anti-corruption police have launched a criminal investigation of the provincial Liberal party.

A spokesperson confirmed the investigation today and said the unit would make no further comment.

The anti-corruption police first revealed last month they were validating allegations of wrongdoing before deciding whether to open an investigation.

The Quebec Liberals have been in crisis since the party’s former parliamentary leader fired her chief of staff without consulting Leader Pablo Rodriguez.

They are also facing allegations of possible vote-buying during a leadership race earlier this year.

Rodriguez says he welcomes the involvement of the anti-corruption unit to shed light on the affair.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 10, 2025.
