PARIS — Canada and more than two dozen Ukrainian allies have signed a statement pledging to secure Ukraine from further Russian invasions if there is a viable peace deal.
The U.K. and France have committed to physical hubs within Ukraine for armed support, but it remains unclear whether Canadian soldiers would be deployed on the ground.
The statement says Europeans will lead the effort, with other nations such as Canada and Australia assisting.
Prime Minister Mark Carney was among Ukraine’s allies in the “coalition of the willing” which met in Paris to try and finalize security guarantees for Ukraine to help end the war with Russia.
More coming.
