Large rally pushes against ICE presence after fatal shooting in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS — Thousands gathered in Minneapolis today to push back on the Trump administration’s deployment of federal forces after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer fatally shot a woman earlier this week.

People held signs with the face of Renee Good, the 37-year-old mother who was shot in the head on Wednesday, while calling for ICE to get out of their city.

The massive protest marked the latest demonstration that gripped the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, which have become the main target of Trump’s immigration crackdown.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security says its deployment in the area is its largest immigration operation.

Ellen Hinck, a teacher who attended the protest, tells The Canadian Press it’s not surprising that Minnesota was targeted because the Trump administration is zeroing in on Democrat-leaning states.

She says no matter what happens, Minneapolis’ values will not change.
