Three people dead in western Quebec First Nation, provincial police say

By Canadian Press on February 11, 2026.

MANIWAKI — Quebec provincial police have taken over an investigation into the deaths of three people in a First Nation community in the province’s western region.

Provincial police say local officers in the community of Kitigan Zibi were called to a home around 2:15 a.m. where they found the three people.

One was declared dead at the scene and the other two were taken to hospital where their deaths were confirmed.

Local police say the victims are all members of Kitigan Zibi, an Algonquin First Nation community northwest of Ottawa.

A provincial police spokesperson did not want to offer more details about the sequence of events, saying the force prefers to wait until major crimes investigators arrive at the scene.

Quebec Premier François Legault, Public Security Minister Ian Lafrenière and local Liberal MP Sophie Chatel were among those who shared their condolences with the community today.
