John Moyor
1921 – 2013
It is with sadness that the family of John Moyor announce his passing in
Taber on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the age of 92 years.
The Funeral Service will be held at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 – 48
Avenue, Taber on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. Burial to follow at
the Taber Memorial Garden. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our
website at http://www.southlandfuneral.com.
Besides his devoted companion, Grace Marko, John is survived by his
daughter Sherry (Wayne) Schmirler of Calgary and his son Robert (Diana)
Moyor of Kelowna; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one
great great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Irene James of
Calgary and by numerous  nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his youngest son, Jimmy Moyor, in 1987.
John was born April 2, 1921 in Megyaszo, Hungary. At the age of six, he
immigrated to Canada with family. They settled in Taber which he has called
home ever since and consequently, many wonderful friendships have been
developed over the years. Morning coffee was a normal routine with his
buddies!
After serving in WWII, John was a loyal Royal Canadian Legion member and
officer. He also served on various other committees including the Air Cadet
League, Taber Golf Club, Taber Museum Society and with the Clearview Lodge.
As with many of the youth in Taber, John worked at the canning factory and
part time with the Alberta Liquor Control Board. He eventually became the
manager of the ALCB, retiring in 1981 after thirty two years.
Hunting, fishing, gardening and playing his guitar were his passions until
the Taber Golf Club opened. Then it was golf, golf and more golf! His yearly
trips to Mexico and the United States were also a highlight. Many exciting
stories were told of his trip to China to visit Sherry and Wayne.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in John’s name may be made
directly to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #20, 5205 – 48 Avenue, Taber,
Alberta T1G 1S8.

LAWRENCE (RED) BERT ROE
February 27, 1928 – June 3, 2013
It is with both sadness and relief that the family of Lawrence Roe announce his passing into the arms of His Kind and Loving Heavenly Father. He will be dearly missed by his children: Kathy (Len) Wegwitz, Donna (David) Rasmussen, Rob (Deb), Randy (Ivana), and Cari (Cory) Bevans; 32 grandchildren, 109 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Margaret (Gerald) and Kay (Ken) Roe; 2 nephews and 5 nieces; and his many, many friends. We thank his very special and dedicated friends: Iva Beck and family, Tom Olsen, and Ed Stapleton for their continual love and support during dad’s illness.
Dad is preceded in death by his parents Bert and Izora (Dearinger) Roe, his brothers and sister Gerald and Ken Roe and Rosalie Cheeseman, his grandson Chad Rasmussen and his great grandson, Quinn Kaupp.
Dad loved life! He loved dancing, playing cards, musical theatre productions and any kind of road trip. The Cardston basketball will never be the same without him cheering those Cougars on!
Most of dad’s life he was a farmer. He started out in Woolford working with his dad and ended in Leavitt. He took a short break in between the two and became a grain buyer for the Alberta Wheat Pool. However, he found it to be too confining working indoors and when the opportunity came to buy his own farm in Leavitt, he did it. He tried sheep, but didn’t like them much so switched to milking cows. He didn’t like that much either, but it paid the bills and supported his family. His favorite, however, was working the land and watching the crops grow and become ready to harvest. After retiring, one of dad’s favorite past times was to just jump in the car with family or friends and go for a ride in the country to ‘see how the crops are doing’.
A few days ago, on a particularly warm day, he still wanted to go for a ride outside. Unable to get into a car, he was bundled up, sat in a chair, and over the bumps in the road he did go, soaking up every bit of sunshine he could. That was his last good day.
Our family would like to thank the many kind people who cared for dad. He has many special friends and family members who spent endless hours in his care. We’d also like to thank Dr. Clarke and the nursing staff for their care and attention during this time.
Everyone is welcome to ‘meet the family’ at the Leavitt L.D.S. Chapel, ONLY on Friday, June 7th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Leavitt, Alberta on Saturday, June 8th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.

WELLS
JOANNE CREIGHTON-WELLS – MIA’NISTAWAISTAMIAAKI
(MANY DIFFERENT FLAG WOMAN)
JOANNE CREIGHTON WELLS passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 01, 2013 at the Chinook Regional hospital. She is survived by husband, Robert, children; Stan & Clo-Ann (Lynzee), Leslie (Jozee & Jada), Bo & Cheyenne (Stran) granddaughter, Brooke (Mason), mother-in-law Beauty Wells and sister-in-law Roberta (Darcy). Brothers/sisters; Cooky, Ritzie (Ivan), Charlene (Tim), Diki, Bill (Rae-Ann), Pat (Rose) Fox. She is also survived by adopted children, grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, aunts & uncles.
Joanne ‘Girlie’ Wells was born to the late Stanford & Arabella Creighton on January 19, 1955 at the Blood Indian hospital. She received her education at St. Mary’s school on the Blood Reserve, graduating with a high school diploma in 1989. She went on to pursue her career in social work graduating in 1997 with a social work diploma from Mount Royal College. Girlie always loved being around people and doing anything to help others. This led her employment path to work for Health & Welfare Canada (Medical Services branch), Blood Tribe Administration, Sun Country Child & Family Services in Cardston and then moving to Blood Tribe Child Protection Services in Standoff. After being forced to go on long term disability she enrolled at Newman College and earned her a Pastoral Biblical Theology certificate.
Girlie was raised in a strong catholic home (being with her maternal grandparents often). Influenced by her mother’s strong belief in the catholic faith, she joined her mother in November, 1983 to make her Cursillo. Her theme of ‘born again’ helped her on her spiritual journey. In the summer of 2007 she joined the Motok’iiksi (Buffalo Women Society). She looked forward to the summer where she would join the other ladies at the annual Sundance.
Girlie was a fun person to be around. She was quiet but could be mischievous. Her friends can attest to this. Many occasions she could be the instigator of pranks but would only smile when questioned. Being a good sport, she played on the revival of girls basketball at St. Mary’s. This was the next step from her cheer leading days. She loved horses, and encouraged and supported her family in this sport. In the winter time she would be at the skating rink again supporting her family. Girlie also loved to spend time with her girls and would travel to go shopping with them, or just to hang out with them. Her other past times included bingo/casino or just relaxing with her crossword puzzle book, or reading a good book (twilight trilogy – team Edward) or watching family videos.
Girlie will be sadly missed but her teachings of compassion and unconditional love will live on. The family apologizes for anyone missed because she came from a large extended family.
