EARL “OLIVER LOGAN
Feb 25, 1941 – June 16, 2013
Oliver was born in the City of Lethbridge, one of six children to Ruby and Earl Logan. He passed away peacefully in his home (Nanaimo, BC) on Father’s Day of this year. He is survived by his 3 children, Julia, Roy (Cheryl), and David (Sarah). Oliver’s is also survived by his loving siblings, Darlene, Howard, Karon and Sharon. He was prececeased by his infant sister Joy, his Mother Ruby and Father Earl.
Oliver was a strong loving man with a heart of gold, eager to help anyone who needed it. Honest and with integrity, he was very successful in sales am d marketing. Making a career and many friends in Nanaimo where he spent the last 41 years.
A celebration of Life will be held on August 3.

(September 1, 1940 – July 28, 2013)
With great sadness, we regret to announce the passing of our dear mother, MARION ROSE HEAVY SHIELDS, on Sunday, July 28, 2013, with her family at her side, at the age of 72 years.
Marion was predeceased by her parents, Frank & Beatrice Goodstriker; daughter Gina; infant brother Francis; sister Patsy Rabbit; Sister-in-law Mildred Goodstriker; and niece Alexis Goodstriker.
Marion was born on September 1, 1940 at the Blood Indian Hospital. She is survived by her Husband Ed Heavy Shields and their children: Les (Emily), Murray, Darlene (Jim) Plume; Rudy (Emma), Twylla (Lance) Little Shields; adopted children: Paul Goodstriker, Joseph Eagle Plume; grandchildren: Kenny, Arlene, Talsa, Bambi, Logan, Joni, Marty, Fawn, Sable, Clay, Krissy, Cody, RJ, Shaw, Carter, Maizie; Great-grandchildren: Ariel, Cole, Laz, Anna, Kenny Jr., Marie, Todd Jr., Aiden, Halley, Breare, Christian, Nixon, Fallyn, Avery, Kodi, Cohen, Paisley, Calli, Eddie; Sister Emily Goodstriker; Brothers Woodrow (Delphine) Goodstriker, Mickey Goodstriker, Leland Goodstriker; Brother-in-Law Larry Rabbit; adopted brother and sister: Melvin Fox, Wendi Bull Shields.
Marion was a kind, loving and giving soul who opened her heart and home to all, especially to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, adopted children and family and friends. Marion had a special place in her heart for all, and never closed her door on anyone. Family was always so important and she always stressed to her family to be kind and compassionate to one another and to help each other.
The Family Service will be held at the Legacy Funeral Home in Cardston, Alberta at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2013; Wake Service to follow at the Moses Lake Hall from 7:00 to Midnight. Funeral Mass at 2:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church at St. Mary’s. Interment to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery.

CLAUDE CALVIN RICE, born June 24th, 1926, passed away on July 30th, 2013 at the Cardston Hospital, Cardston, Alberta with family members present.
He will be missed by his 5 children – Kathryn Duce, Marilyn Neilson, Christine Finley, Teresa (Ray) Landry, Fred (Sheelah) Rice; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth, grandson Joey Mahieux, great granddaughter Kita Neilson.
A special thanks to the staff of the Lee Crest Good Samaritans, the Cardston Hospital and Dr. Robert Crawford.

WILLIAM CHARLTON LATTA
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Charlton Latta, Jr. on July 29, 2013 at the age of 83 years, with his loving family at his side.
Bill was born on September 24, 1929 in East Liverpool, Ohio. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy, and his four children: Bill (Margaret) Latta, Linda (Barry) Strangward, Leslie Latta, and Tom (Jody) Latta; and grandchildren Anna, Will, Lauren, Evan, Emily, Madison and Kennedy. Bill cherished every opportunity to spend time with his children, grandchildren and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers. Bill graduated as a Fulbright Scholar with a PhD in English from the University of Nebraska in 1965. He moved his family to Regina that year to teach at the University of Saskatchewan (Regina Campus.) Two years later, he took a faculty position at the newly opened University of Lethbridge, from which he retired in 1990.
Bill was a published poet and a founding member of the Writers’ Guild of Alberta. Following his retirement from the University of Lethbridge, Bill and Nancy lived in Gifu, Japan for two years while Bill, always the consummate teacher, taught English at the Shotoku Gakuen Women’s Junior College. Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed traveling throughout Canada, especially in the Rocky Mountains and to the west coast. Bill will always be remembered for his gentle, kind and generous nature. Please join the family at a memorial reception on Saturday August 3, 2013 from 10:30-1:30pm at Country Kitchen Catering, 1715 Mayor Magrath Drive South (lower level of The Keg). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Supporting Our Students Bursary at the University of Lethbridge.
