STRAIN
MR. DOUG STRAIN, beloved husband of Mrs. Clara Strain of Lethbridge, AB formerly of Foremost, AB, passed away peacefully at the St. Therese Villa on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the age of 96 years.
Besides his loving wife Clara, he is survived by his children; Lloyd (Alice) Strain of Foremost, Maryllyn (Bernard) Miller of Milk River, Dwain (Deceased), Brian Strain (Norah Fleming) of Lethbridge, stepchildren; Marlene (Roy) Ermter of Coaldale, Dwayne Urban of Lethbridge, and Sheila (Bruce) Webster of Cardston.
He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and brothers Bert (Dorothy, Deceased) Strain of Stettler, and Art (Eva) Strain of Foremost, and several nieces and nephews.
Doug was predeceased by his loving wife Esther Hagen in 1966 and son Dwain in 2005. He married Clara Urban in 1969.
He was born on his dad’s (George Strain) original homestead. Dad spent most of his farming life within 1/2 mile of the original homestead. Dad’s love for farming started at age 6 taking his first harvest for grandpa & 88 harvests in his lifetime. Doug bought his 1st. of many Ford trucks and started a trucking business, hauling everything from wheat, coal, livestock to potatoes to help support his family. He loved going to auction sales where the auctioneers would wait until he got there before they started.
Doug was an excellent dancer, travelling many miles across the country, knowing where all the best orchestras were playing. How family, neighbours and friends enjoyed the fun “dance parties” at home dancing to the wee hours of the morning. Even got a great picture of dad’s best friend Harold Street soaking his feet in the bathtub, because he danced so much.
Recently, the 100th anniversary of Foremost took place, where he was the honourary Parade Marshall riding in the old fashioned buggy being pulled by white horses wearing his dad’s wedding suit and black top hat from an auction sale.
He won many competitions in tractor pulling with WD-40. Dad and Clara travelled to Minot, North Dakota, Branson, Missouri, Caribbean & Alaskan cruises. Dad enjoyed his baseball coaching & managing for 33 years and curling. Dad and Clara enjoyed watching their grandchildren & great grandchildren in their sporting events. He will be missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects prior to the funeral service from 12:00 P.M. – 12:45 P.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at the FOREMOST COMMUNITY HALL – 802 1st Avenue West, Foremost, Alberta on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Terry Shillington officiating.

MRS. DORIS MARY WEATHERHEAD, beloved wife of the late Kenneth Weatherhead passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on August 22, 2013 at the age of 93.
Doris is survived by her children, Steve (Barb) Weatherhead, Wendy Kast, Christina McLean, and Linda Malik; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her brother Alroy (Annabelle) Travis and sister-in-law Dorothy Weatherhead.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, husband Kenneth in 1989, son Ross in 1990, son-in-law Merlyn Kast, brother Clarence Travis, sister Charlotte (Mabel) Galicano and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
Doris was born on the family farm east of Granum on December 16, 1919 and was the eldest child of Charles and Gertrude Travis. She married Ken on April 16, 1945 and farmed in the Claresholm area. In 1954 they moved to Grassy Lake and operated Ken’s Esso Service and Koffee Kup as well as Weatherhead Bros. John Deere Dealership with Ken’s brother Clarence. Doris was very talented in many areas; oil painting, paper tole, Brazilian embroidery, crocheting, but she was happiest when she was cooking for family and friends. Family was her greatest joy and she was always glad to hear of their accomplishments, especially those of her great-grandchildren, and watching them grow up.
Doris and Ken loved travelling Western Canada, Western and Eastern USA, the Caribbean, and Hawaii.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Cedar Creek Adapt-A-Care, family, and friends who have been so very kind and helpful in this trying time.
