BEASLEY
Bernice Marie Beasley passed away at the Adapta Care Personal Care Home on Thursday, September, 12th, 2013 at the age of 102 years. Adapta Care was her home for the last 12 years and she received excellent care.
Bernice was born in Lethbridge on January 31st, 1911 to Wilfred and Anna Marie Beasley. She was raised and educated in Lethbridge. She was predeceased by both her parents and her only brother, Chess.
Bernice is survived by her niece, Kathryn Tanner and her two boys, Gregory and Martin Tanner, all of British Columbia.
Bernice entered the business world and her first employment was the Galt Hospital for a short period. She then secured a position with the Lethbridge Northern Irrigation District. Later she applied to the Alberta Department Of Agriculture securing a position of Secretary Bookkeeper, attaining after a few years the position as Office Manager which she held for 45 years. She took early retirement from the government and took a position with the Lethbridge Northern Irrigation District again handling their books for the next five years and then finally retired.
She was a lady of deep faith and convictions. She handled the books at St. Patrick’s Rectory for many years as well as helped the Clergy when they required someone to do their books. She visited parishioners in the hospital and those house bound who couldn’t get out. She brought much joy to many people’s lives, especially if they were in need of a friend or help. An unconditional true friend indeed.
She was an avid reader, a very good Bridge player and was in the same Bridge Club for 60 years plus. She was a Girl Guide Leader for many years and attended most of their functions when possible.
She travelled extensively with tour groups or simply on her own and was delighted to give a detailed account of her trips.
Bernice always enjoyed birthday celebrations, Christmas and New Year’s get togethers and many other functions.
She always said: Each day is a new beginning another chance to learn more about ourselves, to care more about others, to laugh more than we did, to accomplish more than we thought we could, to be more than we were before.
We wish to thank the staff of Adapta Care with gratitude for the excellent care and love Bernice received during the 12 years in their charge. We also wish to thank Fr. Francis for administering the spiritual needs for her journey to her eternal home, and to the doctors for attending to her medical requirements.

LEISHMAN
FRANCES IRENE (WATSON) LEISHMAN, beloved wife of the late Wallace Leishman, passed away peacefully in Lethbridge on Friday, September 13, 2013 at the age of 96 years.
Fran will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Norris (Janet) of Raymond, Kent (Janice) of Lethbridge, and by her daughter Mary Ann (Cameron) Platt of Lethbridge.
She is also survived by grandchildren: Chad (Theresa) Leishman, Kirsten (Hyrum) Erickson, Lindsay (Jared) Ord, Stephanie (James) Smith, Kelli Ann (Duane) Ellingson, Clark (Samantha) Platt, Brigham (Kristin) Leishman, Kate (Will) Waldie, Curtis (Ashley) Platt as well as twenty-seven great grandchildren and one sister, Ruby Hornberger Leavitt. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Fran was the fourth child of Alfred and Mary (Wilson) Watson and was predeceased by sisters Alta Pitcher, Kate Watson, Hazel Adamson, Norma Stanford Orr and by brother Harold Watson.
Fran was born on May 19, 1917 at the Watson homestead near Mountain View Alberta. She grew up in a loving pioneer family and felt fortunate to live and work in this beautiful part of the world. As a young lady, Mom worked as a cook on several haying crews (including the Birdseye Ranch) and as a chambermaid at motels in Waterton Park. The pay was low but the lifestyle was terrific. Mom married Wallace Leishman March 30, 1946. The family lived for a short time at Hill Spring, then moved to Cardston, and in 1952 to Lethbridge when Dad joined the Lethbridge City Police Force. After the kids were in school, Fran worked part time making chocolates in the basement of Stubbs Pharmacy. Christmas was a great time at the Leishman home because Beth Stubbs generously allowed her workers to take home any chocolates that had blemishes or imperfections on them – so there was always enough chocolate for everyone. She looked forward each month to meeting with her “club” ladies where they played games and performed service projects together.
Wally and Fran had the type of relationship most married couples desire but rarely achieve. Early in their marriage they agreed that the children would never see them argue. They achieved this lofty goal, although there was a time or two when their children remember Dad taking a long walk by himself. Their family has had the privilege of watching two best friends married for over 59 years unselfishly consider the needs and comfort of the other before considering themselves. Fran leaves a legacy of showing her progeny how life should be lived – with honesty, integrity, dignity, laughter and loving your children, really loving your grandchildren, and really, really loving your great grandchildren.
Friends may meet the family on Thursday, September 19 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge or at the church prior to the funeral service on Friday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, MOUNTAIN HEIGHTS CHAPEL, 175 Rocky Mountain Blvd. West, Lethbridge, with Bishop Robert Rice officiating.
