BERNARD “BERNIE” CARRIERE
1952 ~ 2013
It is with deep sadness that Bernie’s family announces his sudden passing on Wednesday November 6, 2013 at the age of 61 years.
Bernie was born in Sudbury, Ontario to Lucien and Jacqueline Carriere. He grew up in Cornwall Ontario where he was most well known for his accomplishments as the quarterback for the championship General Vanier high school football team.
He met and married Susan in Cornwall in 1977 and together they had 3 wonderful sons, Justin (Angela), Thomas (Maria), and Luc. They settled in Kingston where Bernie worked in the Cable Television industry and continued to enjoy sports, playing baseball and volleyball.
In 1987 they moved to Estevan, Saskatchewan where they made many good friends and Bernie again took up hockey and golf. Subsequently they moved to Lethbridge in 1991 and Bernie joined Sun Life Financial in 1997 where he worked as a financial services advisor until his retirement in May 2013.
Above all Bernie was a family man, loved by all. One of his many legacies is the annual Family Golf Tournament that he started with his brothers and brothers-in-law, which recently celebrated its 35th anniversary.
Bernie was a proud member of the Rotary Club of Lethbridge, serving as club president, district governor, and most recently Zone Representative for the Rotary Foundation. Bernie was instrumental to the success of many local and international Rotary initiatives, and along the way he made wonderful friends around the world. He also took every opportunity to welcome new members to Rotary and generously mentored many new Rotarians.
Bernie faced his journey with cancer with great optimism and an unwaveringly positive attitude, always responding to inquiries about his health with “I am doing just fine”.
Besides his loving wife and sons, Bernie leaves to mourn his mother Jacqueline Carriere, brothers Lionel (Michelle), Richard (Julie), and Paul (Danielle), sister Simone, sisters-in-law Linda MacDonald, Joan (Tom) MacDonald, brothers-in-law Gordon (Jocelyn) MacDonald, David (Maria) MacDonald, Allan MacDonald and numerous nieces and nephews.

1923 ~ 2013
Carried safely from the loving arms of her family to the loving arms of her Savior; Lois Jean Hann, cherished wife of the late Herman Hann, went on to her eternal rest November 7, 2013.

In 2002, Lois was widowed, and in 2006, she moved to Columbia Assisted Living. PEDERSEN
It is with great sadness we bid farewell to our friend, Dorothy Irene Pedersen. Dorothy passed away after a brief illness at the age of 47 years.
She is survived by her mother, Ruth Konshak and was predeceased by her Grandmother Irene, Dorothy will be sadly missed by her friend, Murielle Guitard, her roommate, Megan Fletcher, her adopted Grandma Lydia Prokop and her special friends at the Bluefox Association.
While Dorothy had to deal with many challenges in her life she was a pleasure to live with and was a constant friend. She had a great sense of humour and loved a variety of music; plus she had a passion for scary movies. Her smile would light up a room and her belly laughs were infectious. Although she was unable to speak she could definitely communicate her moods.

RICK OVERN
It is with sorrowful hearts that we announce the passing of a treasured husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Rick Overn on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at St. Michael’s Palliative Care at the age of sixty-nine.
Born in Magrath, Alberta on October 12, 1944, Rick was a son to Roy and Leta Overn and a brother to Joy, Midge, Allen and Karen. In the early 1950’s, the Overn family moved to Lethbridge where Rick attended school. He met and married the love of his life, Joanne and together they raised two wonderful daughters, Shelly and Kari. Throughout their 48 years together, Joanne supported and encouraged Rick’s interests and hobbies which were many and varied. He was a master electrician, loved to hunt, fish and golf, worked as a dental technician and pharmacy technician and through the LSCO took great delight in learning and honing his skills as a wood carver, wood burner and artist. Rick possessed no end of talent when it came to working with wood and he created many pieces of oak furniture for his family and friends. Working with his sons-in-law he also crafted three cedar strip canoes (one for each family) as well as his kayak.
Rick was extremely proud of his girls and “his boys”, his daughter’s husbands. When they presented him with grandchildren, his joy knew no bounds. He loved and adored each of them equally. Thus, along with his cherished wife, Joanne, and devoted daughters Shelly (Paul) and Kari (John), Rick leaves to mourn his beloved grandchildren Dylan, Rowan, Ryder and Talia. Also grieving his loss will be his sisters Joy, Midge and Karen, his brother Allen, his sisters-in-law Deanna (Ken) Jeanette, and Cheryl, many nieces and nephews and countless friends whose lives were enriched through knowing him. Rick was predeceased by two infant brothers Rodney and Roger, his parents, Roy and Leta, father-in-law, Ken Waters, mother-in-law, Willa Waters, and brother-in-law Roy Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the LSCO on Saturday, November 16th from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. The family requests that everyone dress casually for this gathering, as Rick was most comfortable in jeans and a shirt. Flowers are gratefully declined. If people so wish, donations in Rick’s name may be made to St. Michael’s Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, 1400 -9th Avenue South, Lethbridge, T1J 4V5. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff in Palliative Care for their kindness and compassion during the last weeks of Rick’s life.
Rest in peace dear Ricky, knowing that you take with you the love and friendship of all who are left behind. May your spirit glow and your light forever shine.
