BATES
KEVIN BATES, passed away in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the age of 41 years.
He is survived by his father Franklin (Elisa) Bates, his mother Laura Stienhoff (nee Selk), two daughters, Sydney and Brooke, grandmother Maxine Bates, five uncles, four aunts, and numerous cousins.
Kevin was born in Kelowna, BC and his primary education occurred in Venezuela and Colombia. Kevin attended high school at Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, FL. Kevin went on to post-secondary education at Rollins College in Orlando, FL and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Kevin started working for a trucking company while going to college in Florida where he was quickly promoted into management, eventually becoming a Vice President in charge of Operations at 28 years of age.
The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, FAIRMONT CHAPEL, 205 Fairmont Blvd. South, Lethbridge, with Kevin’s uncle, Bishop Gary Selk officiating.
A private family graveside service will be held prior to the Memorial Service.

ELLIOTT, Kaye ‘Clarence’ David – passed away suddenly at Trenton Memorial Hospital on Sunday, November 17th, 2013 in his 75th year. Kaye is survived by his ever loved daughters Angela Kennedy (Blair) of Edmonton, AB and Theresa Schwarz (David) of Lethbridge, AB. Ever remembered and proud grandfather of Nicole Dawson, Taralyn Ouellette, Jeff Schwarz and great-grandfather of Donovan Ouellette, Zachary Dawson and Gage Evenson. PETA
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of LAWRENCE FRANCIS PETA of Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 75 years, on November 14th 2013. Lawrence was the son of the late Julius Peta, and Helen Peta (Susnar), Lawrence was born in Lethbridge. Left to mourn are his loving wife Gabriella; son Aaron, daughter Heidi, and her family.
Lawrence was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and gracious teacher. He will always be cherished for his kind and gentle nature, generosity, and love of knowledge. In 1957 he was awarded the Calgary Herald Scholarship in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering.
A funeral Mass will be held at 5:00pm on Friday, November 22, 2013 at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Parish, 7508-29 Avenue Edmonton.

Flavia Zanolli
1950 – 2013
It is with great sadness that the family of Flavia Zanolli announce her unexpected passing in Edmonton on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the age of 62 years.

Left to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life are her mother Poldina Zanolli of Lethbridge; brother Alvaro (Lorell) Zanolli of Taber; nephew Josh (Breanna) Zanolli of Drayton Valley and their children Jaxon, Emerson and Kamryn; nephew Jeff (Kareena) Zanolli of Taber and their children Gavin and Grady; niece Janna (Shawn) Ogertschnig of Lethbridge.
She was predeceased by her father Italo Zanolli on December 18, 1983.
Flavia was born on December 8, 1950 in Ville del Monte, Italy and immigrated to Taber in 1954 where she attended and graduated from St. Mary¹s. She worked for AGT and later Telus, first as an operator and then as a draftsperson, responsible for planning new subdivisions and developments. When the Lethbridge office closed in the early 90s, she moved to Grande Prairie. At the time of her passing, she was employed with ATCO in the same capacity.
Flavia always had a flare and talent for interior decorating and her home was always changing and was admired by her many friends in Grande Prairie. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing which she started at a very young age. Many family members and friends received knitted sweaters as birthday gifts and Christmas presents.

Ada Mary Ecker, beloved wife of Ed Ecker, passed away in Taber on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the age of 69 years following almost thirty years battling Multiple Sclerosis.

Lloyd Higgins
1922 – 2013
The last of Retlaw¹s pioneer Higgins family is gone with the passing of Lloyd Higgins, beloved husband of Doris Higgins, who passed away in Taber on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at the age of 90 years.

Besides his loving wife Doris, he is survived by three nieces Jean, Pat and Sheila.
He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Mildred Higgins; twin brother Terry (Shirley) Higgins; brother Louis (Martha) Higgins; sister Florette Montgomery and nephew Brian Higgins.
The Retlaw twins Lloyd and Terry Higgins were born on the family farm in Retlaw. After a short period working on the coast of British Columbia, Lloyd returned to the land he loved and farmed and ranched with Terry for more than seventy years.
He had faith in John Deere power, the Liberal platform, Ford trucks, Hereford cattle and the Alberta Wheat Pool. Always sports minded, Lloyd curled for years, cheered for the New York Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Montreal Canadiens.
Lloyd enjoyed travelling. He has visited every Canadian province, England and Europe. He and Doris spent many March months in Hawaii and Florida.
Lloyd was a Mason for sixty four years and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Vauxhall branch.
