MIKADO
MR. SAM (ISAMU) MIKADO, beloved husband of the late June Mikado, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 5, 2014 at the age of 82 years. Sam, the youngest of eight children, was born on March 12, 1931 in Ganges (Salt Spring Island), British Columbia to Masukichi and Tsutayo Mikado. He was raised in Magrath, Alberta. Sam was a talented athlete who played basketball, baseball (for the Evaks), and golf. He married June and together they raised their five children in Magrath. Their home was always a social center of generosity. His good humour and caring will be missed by all. Sam worked at Tanner’s Building Supply then Kenwood Construction & Engineering with pride and enjoyment for many years. Sam is survived by his daughter Patti (Jim) Spencer, by his sons Richard, James (Chiemi Matsunaga), and Ron, and by his daughter-in-law Karen Mikado. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Jackie, Graham (Jen), Taya, and Sammy, of whom he was so proud. He will be missed by his siblings Mary (John) Nagata, Doug (Susie), and Bob and by the extended Mikado and Sugai families. Sam was heartbroken by the loss of his son Don in 2012 and then by his loving wife June in 2013. Many thanks to the visiting relatives and friends and to the kind staff at St Therese Villa who have cared for him. Also thank you to his loyal friend, Max Gurney who supported Sam in his independence as his health declined. A special thank you to Dr Collins & Dr Wong & the staff of the Dialysis Unit of the Chinook Regional Hospital for their many years of care and encouragement. A Memorial Service will be held at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge, on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 11:00am. Koden and flowers are graciously declined. Donations in memory of Sam may be made to the Kidney Foundation or a charity of one¹s choice.
