It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of DAFFNEY JOEL (CHIEF MOON) WEASEL MOCCASIN on
Sunday, March 2nd, 2014 in Lethbridge, Alberta. Daffney was born in Cardston, Alberta on March 25th,
1986. Daffney was a mother, daughter, sister, niece and cousin. She leaves to mourn her four beautiful
children – Timothy Joel, Savannah Christina, Jordan Melodie, and Kaiden Alexander.
She is survived by her mother Corrine (Peter) Chief Moon; her special parents Stanley Alexander-Kae,
Byron (Shannon) Chief Moon and Ivan First Charger; her Father Wildon (Shauna) Healy Sr./Weasel Moccasin;
her special friend Shaun Provost; ; her Grandmothers Patsy Weasel Moccasin, Betty Healy, Jan Porchina,
Clothilda First Charger; Grandfather Cordell Weasel Moccasin; her Siblings, Davy, Agatha, Tia, Destiny,
Ethan, Summer, Autumn, Deandra, Stevie, Jana, and Wildon Jr.
Daffney is a direct descendant of Chief Red Crow. She attended Saipoyi Elementary School, Stand Off,
Alberta until the age of 7, then moved to Vancouver, B.C. and continued her education there. While in
school, she learned to play the violin and the flute. At the age of 17, she moved back to the Blood
Reserve. Her pride and joy were her children. She was very charismatic with a beautiful smile and
wonderful sense of humour. Daffney will be sadly missed by all that love and knew her.
Daffney was predeceased by her brother Micheal First Charger; maternal grandmother Mona Chief Moon; great
grandparents Victor and Mary Chief Moon; Paternal Great grandparents Dan & Ada Weasel Moccasin, and Art
Healy Sr. She is survived by extended families – Wells, Wings, White Feather, Eagle Bears, Many Grey
Horses, and Curly Riders.

Service will be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve on Sunday, March 9th, 2014 from 7:00 to
11:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall on Monday, March 10th, 2014 at
11:00 a.m. with Pastor Josh Curly Rider officiating. Interment in the Pioneer Cemetery, Blood Reserve.

COWAN, Anne M. (nee Beers)
April 29, 1922 – March 2, 2014
Anne Cowan beloved mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, passed away peacefully at the Beverly
Center in Calgary on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the age of 91 years.
Mom was one of sixteen children born to Mary and Purl Beers in Emerson, NB. Mom was an active member of
the First United Church, Maple Leaf Chapter No. 7 O.E.S., 702 Wing Air Force Association, Royal Canadian
Legion Steward Branch #4 and Lethbridge Senior Centre. She golfed for many years at Magrath Golf and
Country Club. Mom clogged well into her seventies which helped keep her attitude young and her bones
strong. Alzheimer’s claimed mom’s mind years ago but not her spirit or the sparkle in her eyes whenever
her great-grandchildren were present. She was well loved and will be missed and remembered for her
strength and her wonderful self- deprecating sense of humor.
Mom is survived by her daughters Carolyn Cowan, Wendy Thomas and Donna (Jim) Smith; grandsons Tyler and
Lucas Thomas; great-grand-children Peyton and Bronwyn Thomas as well as well as hundreds of nieces and
nephews (remember the 15 brothers and sisters). Mom was predeceased by her husband George, her sister-
in-law Margaret Meidinger, son-in-law Chris Thomas, her parents and all her siblings.

FOWLER
PAIGE FOWLER, beloved mother on Savannah & Trey, of Lethbridge, passed away suddenly at home on Saturday,
March 1, 2014 at the age of 31 years.
Besides her loving children, she is survived by her children’s father Nana Brenya of Calgary, mother
Holly Poch, father Bill (Kim) Fowler, brother Shawn Fowler and grandmother Lynne Poch as well as other
family too numerous to mention.
Paige was an unique person. She was artistic, loyal, loving, kind yet stubborn and willful. She was many
things to different people but the most important to her was being a mother. For those of us who loved
her we are forever changed by knowing her. Her legacy she leaves behind kisses me goodnight and I know we
will love her forever.
A Trust Account has been established in the children’s name at CIBC Main and in lieu of flowers donations
would be greatly appreciated.

GORRILL, Glenna Mae
January 27, 1927 –Lethbridge, AB

Glenna Gorrill passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the age of 87 years.
She was born to Alice and Allison Gorrill of New Dayton Jan 27 1927. She is predeceased by both her
parents; her sister, Dorothy (Soice); and her two brothers, Harry and Jerry. After graduating from New
Dayton High School Glenna attended the Galt School of nursing where she received her R.N. in 1949 where
she was valedictorian of her class. She obtained her certificate in teaching and supervision in 1955and
her B.Sc. in nursing in 1962. Glenna completed her Masters of Nursing degree in 1968, and then accepted
the position of nursing instructor at the Red Deer College where she was largely responsible for the
development of that program. Glenna was a talented artist whose paintings can be seen at every one of her
family’s residences as her talent is superseded only by her tremendous generosity. Audry Thompson, a long
time friend and companion, shared in many of Glenna’s accomplishments and hobbies, and was a strong
support for many years and for that we thank her and her family.

It is with deep sadness that we announce that Peter Baier passed away peacefully on March 5, 2014 at the
Cedar Creek Lodge in Lethbridge at the age of 86.
Those left to cherish his memories are Irmina Baier, his loving wife and lifelong friend of 62 years, his
four children, Johanna (Norman), Hans (Shelley), Rosemarie (Barry Allen), Norbert (Holly), his six
special grandchildren, Katherine, Shayla, Jeffrey, Denae (Brody), Kevin (Mariah), and Caitlin (Brandon).
He also leaves behind a sister in Germany, Anna Fichter, brother -in-law, John (Elizabeth) Vogel,
numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his parents in Russia, his sister Stephanie, and
brother-in-law George Fichter in Germany.
Peter was born December 16, 1927, in Kamenka (a German province in Russia). He married Irmina in
 November, 1951 in Germany and immigrated to Canada in April 1953. The family initially resided in Turin,
then retired in Lethbridge.
Vigil Rites will be held at 7:00pm, on Monday, March 10, 2014, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610
4th Street South, Lethbridge AB.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am, Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at ST. BASIL’S ROMAN CATHOLIC
CHURCH. 604 13th Street North, Lethbridge, AB, with Father Nathan Siray, celebrant. Cremation has been

THOMAS MITSUNAGA
1929-2014
Tom passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan home on Saturday the 8th of February at the age of 84.
He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his sister Jean and her husband Paul Quan, nephews
Tim and Mark Quan and their families of Calgary and nieces Tami Quan and Key Tsubouchi and their families
of Kelowna.
Tom was born in Mission B. C. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from University of Manitoba. He
worked for a Seismic Surveying Company for several years prior to receiving his Bachelor of Education
Degree from University of Calgary, and taught at the L.C.I. for 30 years. Tom was a respected Chemistry
teacher as well as the Department Head of Science. Tom had a deep comradely with all the L.C.I. teachers
and was always considered as a very intelligent, conscientious teacher. Tom also worked tirelessly for
the redress of the Japanese Canadians. He was a great golfer and loved to go hunting. He was active at
the senior centre and loved the Karaoke there as well as being an instructor of the fitness class. A
private cremation service was held on February 11. We are very thankful for the wonderful care received
at the Good Samaritan Park Meadows Village and Cottages in Lethbridge.
TORKEL
June 10th, 1934 – March 6, 2014
It is with profound sadness the family announces the passing of Horst Harry Torkel after a brief illness.
He leaves to mourn his passing; his beloved wife of 56 years Anna (Nee Kutzner), sons Brian and Ralph
Torkel, daughter Irene Torkel (David Finch-Field) and granddaughters Whitney and Desiree Torkel-
Finchfield. As well as his sisters Linda (Walter) Hoffman and Ingrid (Charles) Hutton. He is predeceased
by his parents Max and Meta Torkel, older sister Ursula and younger brother Klaus. Horst immigrated to
Canada from Germany with his parents and siblings in 1953. He married the love of his life Anna and they
chose to settle in the County of Lethbridge countryside, raising their family in the old White School.
Horst, Anna and a number of special friends spent every spare moment and weekend renovating the old
school into a home. It was a great source of pride. Horst worked 28 years at Mountain Minerals before
retiring to spend more time with his family. He was always a family man. He lived a short distance from
his parents and looked forward to holidays when he was able to celebrate with everyone. Horst was a
social man who made friends easily. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. He loved his
family, friends and country, celebrating Canada’s achievements this past Olympics. As per his request
there will be no service. Cremation and a family gathering have taken place. The family ask in lieu of
flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation P.O. Box 2211 Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 4K7 or the Lung
Association P.O. Box 4500, Station South Edmonton, Alberta, T6E 6K2 would be appreciated. The family
requests a respectable period of privacy during mourning.

Florence Elizabeth Cline, beloved wife of the late George Cline, passed away in Taber on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the age of 94 years.

Florence is survived by her children Rod (Ida) Cline of Taber, Darleen (Al) Hamper of St. Albert, son-in-law Al Davidson of Taber and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Florence was predeceased by her husband George Cline (1975), her daughter Dorothy Davidson (2011) and great grandson Shaun Davidson (1991). She was also predeceased by her siblings and their spouses Burnice (Ernie) Lindskoog, Lloyd (Eunice) Swap, Lois Booth, Emma (Art) Stewart and brother-in-law Martin Booth.
Florence was born in Hughenden on June 2, 1919 to Victoria (nee Brown) and Charles Swap. She received her schooling at Teat Hills School. She met George Cline and they were married November 6, 1937. They raised their family, living at Amisk and Drayton Valley. Florence and George later moved to Ryley after purchasing the pool hall and the barber shop before George¹s passing in 1975. In 1981, Florence moved to Taber to be closer to family. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by those close to her.
