Dorothy Irene Wells, (nee Jarvie)
April 15th, 1932 – March 13, 2014
Dorothy Irene Wells, the beloved wife of Charles H. Wells, passed away at the St. Michaels Care Center,
on Thursday March 13th, 2014, surrounded by the love of her natural family and the care of the wonderful
professionals at St. Mikes.
Dorothy was born to Anthony Marshall Jarvie and Sarah (Morris) Jarvie on April 15th, 1932 in Lethbridge
Alberta. Dorothy attended public school in Lethbridge and after graduation Dorothy worked for the City of
Lethbridge, Trans Canada Airlines and for 27 years the Raymond General Hospital.
In the winter of 1960 Dorothy met her husband Charles while skating on Henderson Lake. The two were as
devoted to each other as two people could be. Through good times, tough times lean and prosperous times,
the two were inseparable. Charles was with her at the end holding her hand, and as always, sending her
his love.
After marriage, the newlyweds moved to Raymond. Dorothy moved from city girl to country girl and learned
the life of farming, and gardening. In the years that followed Dorothy became the proud mother of two
children who she adored, Charles Wells (Jr. of Edson, Alberta) and her daughter Kathleen Wells (Richard
Harding) of Calgary, Alberta.
Dorothy always had an artistic flair and instilled a love of the arts in her children. Dorothy was gifted
in photography and painting, talents which were passed on to her son.
In the years before marriage Dorothy loved to travel, and was a known to be a bit of a fashionista,
sporting always great shoes, hats, gloves and bags. Dorothy’s favorite travel spots were London England
and the Barbados. Dorothy’s flair for fashion and love for travel is something that her daughter carries
on.
After marriage Dorothy‘s pursuits turned to looking after her family and church. Globetrotting travel
turned to family camping trips or spending time with her sister Sandra and brother in law, Lee Learner at
their home in Waterton National Park.
Dorothy was a devoted member of the United Church of Canada, the church was committed to Dorothy during
her illness as she was to the church during her life.
Dorothy also had a great sense of humor and loved to garden. Right up to the end, Dorothy was
entertaining doctors, nurses and her family. Dorothy was a kind a gentle woman who was thoughtful of
others beliefs and kind to all. She will be deeply missed but her kindness and sense of humour will live
on in the memories of all who knew her. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Sarah, and
all six (6) of her siblings, Marshall, Morris, Donald, Anthony, Sandra and Carolyn Jarvie and her son in
law, Michael Peterson.
Besides her immediate family, Dorothy is survived by her sisters in law, Audrey Warawa, Patricia Sphiel,
Nita and Gladys Jarvie and numerous nieces and nephews.
A family and close friend’s celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held at The Chapel at St. Michael’s
Care Center in Lethbridge, Alberta on Saturday, the 22nd of March at 11:00 am. With Reverend Aldeen McKay
and Reverend Terry Shillington officiating.
The gift of flowers is gratefully declined. For those wishing to remember Dorothy please consider making
a donation to the Canadian Arthritis Association, a disease which Dorothy suffered from for 50 years.

IRVINE
It is with the utmost sadness that the family of RONALD DENNIS “SCOTTY” IRVINE announces his passing
after a short, but courageous battle with lung disease.
Scotty was born on the family farm near Barons, Alberta to parents Hazel (nee Mickleberg) and Billy
Irvine, where he spent the rest of his life farming. Married to Madeline Mifflin for nearly 60 years,
they raised four children: Terry, Gary (Brenda), Lee (Monica) and Barb (Chris). Scotty loved camping and
fishing in the mountains and spent many summers with the family near Spring Creek. In his later years, he
spent much of his time on the golf course at Keho Lake, perfecting his game. He loved being outdoors and
always “on the go” somewhere. Sharing a story or a joke at the local coffee shop was a favourite pastime.
He had a great sense of humour and made friends wherever he went. In his last days, Scotty was surrounded
by all of his family at his bedside, sharing stories and jokes right up until his last moments.
Scotty was predeceased by his mother Hazel (nee Mickleberg), father Billy Irvine, and brother Sonny. He
is survived by his sister Lorraine and wife Madeline. Scotty is the proud father of four children, six
grandchildren: Colby, Connor, Baylee, Carson, Brandon and Lauren. Scotty was a true testament to “family
first”.
A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South,
Lethbridge on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Glenda Wert officiating.
The family expresses their sincere thanks to the staff at the South Campus Hospital in Calgary, whereÂ
Scotty spent his last days. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks for donations to the Alberta

in Calgary in 1949 and they moved to Taber where Ed managed the Big T Supermarket along with his two
brothers.
Dorothy was a kind and generous person and a very supportive wife and mother. Throughout her lifetime she
was helpful to new immigrants and was able to use her bilingual skills to assist others, especially
Chinese women who needed guidance for doctor, hair or eye appointments. She was active in the UCW for
many years at the Knox United Church. Dorothy was caring and supportive of her children¹s needs and
aspirations and loved her grandchildren very much. She was so delighted to have lived to meet Simon, her
only great grandchild. She taught her children the difference between right and wrong and to respect
their elders and this legacy will be passed down to future generations.
Many of the fun times were spent with Ed and the notorious neighbours on 51st Street, whose good humour
and pranks were legendary. In earlier years, as children of new immigrant families, there were social
