BRIAN WAYNE WIELAND
1951 ~ 2014
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brian Wayne Wieland on March 16, 2014 at the age
of 62. He was born on November 2, 1951 and grew up in the Iron Springs area, later residing in Picture
Butte and most recently in Lethbridge.
Brian is survived by Brenda, his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 43 years. He will be forever
cherished by his daughters Sherry Wieland of Calgary, Kimberly (Steven) Wise, Melanie (Kevin) Winters and
his precious grandchildren Jada, Mason and Ashton Winters all of Lethbridge.
Brian will also be sadly missed by his siblings, Les (Laurie) Wieland of Iron Springs, Gloria Wieland of
Vancouver and Debbie (Brent) Dustin of Port McNeill, BC; his mother in law, Martha Silsbe of Lethbridge;
brothers in law, Russ (Judie) Silsbe of Lethbridge, Lynn (Sharon) Silsbe of Carmangay, Larry (Gloria)
Silsbe of Lethbridge, Barty Silsbe of Picture Butte and numerous other relatives and friends.
Brian is predeceased by his parents, Martin and Helen Wieland, his brother Edward Wieland, father in law
Lawrence Silsbe, numerous aunts and uncles and also by his dear friends Fred Sikkens and Ken Bartz.
Brian was a true farmer at heart and loved being outdoors whether he was farming, custom trucking,
gardening, working around the yard, taking his grandchildren for walks and to play in the park or just
out for a drive with Brenda often looking at the fields or checking on his cattle. He was a hard worker
who took tremendous pride in everything he did including working, gardening, cooking, playing the lottery
and spending time with his family and many friends.
Brian was a strong yet kind hearted and genuine man who made friends wherever he went. He was always
willing to help those in need any way that he could and loved talking to people, telling them stories and
coming up with nicknames for those he met. He was blessed with very loving family and friends; rich in
every way that mattered.

ELIZABETH “BETTY”
GIESBRECHT
1936 ~ 2014
Mrs. Betty Giesbrecht of Lethbridge beloved wife of Mr. Jake M. Giesbrecht passed away peacefully in the
arms of the Lord on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the age of 77 years.
She was born to Aron & Susanna Willms on August 11, 1936 in Bassano, Alberta. In her early years the
family moved to Steinbach, Manitoba where she completed her high school. Betty accepted the Lord as her
Saviour during her teenage years and was baptized in the MB church. She worked with the Royal Bank of
Canada as a teller in Steinbach, Manitoba where she met the love of her life Jake. They were married on
August 19, 1956 in Steinbach and spent the next 10 years living in both Winnipeg and farming in the
Steinbach area. Jake & Betty welcomed their 2 daughters Charlene on Valentines Day and 4 years later
Lynda in the middle of June. In 1971 the family moved to Lethbridge, Alberta where Betty worked as a part
time bank teller for many years. Betty was very involved in the Christian Women Ministries for over 30
years and she loved music, singing in many choirs. She loved spending time with her family, camping, road
trips and relaxing in the mountains. Betty was blessed with 3 granddaughters whom she especially loved to
be with.
Besides her loving husband Jake, she is survived by her 2 daughters Charlene (Bill) Shephard of Edmonton,
AB and Lynda (David) Unrau of Skiff, AB and their daughters Alanna, Lauren, and Nicole; 3 sisters, 1
brother and their families as well as many good friends.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, 2 brothers; 1 sister.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, March 24, 2014 at the FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 1614-
5Ave South, Lethbridge.

June 8, 1919 – March 17, 2014
It is with great sadness and love that we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
who passed away at Extendicare at the age of 94 years.
Frances will be sadly missed by her children Sharon (Allan) Neville, Phil Coe Jr., Barbara (Allan) Bayne
and Laurel (Lyle) Saskowski, grandchildren Scot (Marcie), Lee (Rochelle), Patrik (Kathy), Christopher,
Robyn (Jeff), Curtis (Darcy), Andrea (Dan), Christopher (Stevie), Heather, and her great-grandchildren
Simon, Emily, Samuel, Journey, Hudson, Tyson, Kyla, Alanna, Roan, Fenn, Elis, Chloe and Sophie.
She was predeceased by her husband Phil in 1988 and daughter-in-law Sonja in 2013.
Frances taught school in Saskatchewan and later in Benito and Thompson, Manitoba. She moved to Lethbridge
after living in Costa Rica for six years. Frances was an active volunteer at the Galt Museum, Salvation
Army and Bibles For Missions. She was passionate about books and diligently organized the LSCO Library
and later, the books at Garden View Lodge.
Frances was a member of St. Mary The Virgin Anglican Church and later St. Augustine’s, Canadian
Federation of University Women, Council of Canadians and a Life Member of The Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre.
She was a staunch NDP supporter and her favourite charities were directed to animal welfare and
environmental concerns.
Frances was an avid collector of anything to do with Charles Dickens and some of her collection was
proudly displayed at the Public Library with most being donated to the University of Lethbridge.
The family would like to thank Dr. E. Hardin, Jo Nay of the Lethbridge Health Unit and the Staff at
Extendicare for their kindness and caring.
We will miss you mom but you leave behind a lifetime of memories that will live on in your children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place and Interment in Steinbach, Manitoba will be held at a later date.
Flowers are respectfully declined. In lieu of flowers, your time would be appreciated attending and
enjoying your local library.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic and sudden passing of Miles Lorenz of Coleman,
Alberta who was involved in a workplace accident and was on this day called to be with the Lord on March
16, 2014 at the age of 59 years.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his brothers, Garry Lorenz of Coleman, AB and
Leonard (Julie) Lorenz of Lethbridge, AB; his nieces, Kristen Lorenz of Edmonton, AB and Kimberly White
of Medicine Hat, AB; his great-nephew, Liam White; his good friends, Paul Seer and Ricky Lacroix; his
extended family and the many friends he made throughout his lifetime.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Elizabeth.
