ACKERMAN
LOREEN REMINGTON HARRIS ACKERMAN, beloved wife of the late William (Babe) Ackerman, passed away on
Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the age of 97.
Loreen is survived by her daughter Kristine (Barry) Jensen of Lethbridge and her children: Jessica (Greg)
Oxley and Tyler (Lindsay) Wedel and their children. She is also survived by her son, Phillip Ackerman
(Cheryl) of Calgary and his children: Erin (Matthew) LeBaron, Van Ackerman and Cory (Jeremy) Wilde and
their children.
Mom has 12 great-grandchildren with one more expected later this year. She is also survived by her
sisters-in-law, LaRue Harris of Taber and Dorothy Ackerman of Half Moon Bay, BC and many nieces and
nephews and cousins.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Roxy and Ira Harris, her husband Babe, son Jim, daughter- in- law
Cheryl, sister Lois and brother Howard along with in-laws Bernie Ackerman, Meryl and Eve Ackerman,
Lawrence Ackerman, Glen Ackerman, Gladys Makin and Candice and Harold McBain.
Loreen was born January 24, 1917. She married our father Babe in 1946. They resided in Taber. Mom loved
Taber and it was her true home until the year 2000. She moved to Lethbridge to be closer to Kristine, her
daughter.
Mom’s greatest love was raising her children and having an active role in her grand and great-
grandchildren’s lives. Her second love was the dance. She cherished dancing and spent many weekends at
the Lethbridge Trianon. Mom, Lois and their mother Roxy walked from the farm to the church dance hall on
Saturday nights. They spent the night with a good friend and met their father and husband in church.
Together they drove home.
Fortunately for us, our dad also loved to dance.
Loreen was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong
testimony of her Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ. She had a strong conviction of praying,
seeking and receiving answers to her prayers. Mom had great integrity and was always truthful.
Mom was a wonderful daughter and a very hard worker inside and outside the home. She loved fun and even
enjoyed teaching Kristine’s children how to double dutch skip at the age of 75 years. Jessica and Tyler
will never forget the special times they had with her. Loreen was forever a loving mother and nana.
Friends may meet with the family on Saturday, July 19, 2014 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service
at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, TABER STAKE CENTER, Taber, Alberta. The Funeral
service will be held at the church at 11:00 a.m.
Our family sincerely thanks the staff and former House Manager Laurel Barnett, of Adapt – A – Care for
the friendship, love and support that was given mom and her family. Mom reciprocated by being
compassionate, polite and thoughtful.
If you desire you can make a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta, the LDS church missionary
program or a charity of your choice.
