BEVERLY JEAN PASHUK
1933 ~ 2014
Beverly Jean Pashuk (nee Austin), beloved wife of Walter Pashuk, passed away in Lethbridge peacefully
with her family by her side, on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the age of 81 years.
Bev was born in Magrath, Alberta to Flora and Harry Austin, and spent her childhood and much of her adult
life in Magrath. She graduated from the University of Calgary Normal School and began her teaching
career. Early in her career she spent several rewarding years in Spring Coulee’s two-room school and in
Magrath Elementary School. Many years later, while teaching full time, she received her Bachelor of
Education from the University of Lethbridge, something she was very proud of having accomplished.
One of Bev’s greatest joys was being a teacher and she spent most of her career in Lethbridge School District,
retiring from several years at Galbraith Elementary School. She absolutely loved teaching and seeing her
students grow and learn. She was delighted that, throughout her life, she had the opportunity to see her
former students in adulthood, and hear that they had fond memories of being in her classroom.
She was recognized for her dedication to teaching with one of the very first Alberta Teachers’ Association
Excellence in Teaching Awards.
Music was also a big part of Bev’s life. In addition to being an elementary school music teacher, she
played organ for several United Churches. She could often be heard singing familiar songs and would often
burst into song when a song title seemed appropriate. In her retirement, she explored her artistic
talents by painting and doing cross-stitch. Bev and Walt spent many days golfing with friends at
Henderson Lake Golf Club.
Over the past year, Bev was challenged with health concerns but always tried to remain positive and
optimistic. She was exceedingly grateful for the support she received from friends, commenting frequently
about how very lucky she was to have such wonderful people around her.
Besides her loving husband, Walter, she is survived by her daughter Wendy (Allan) Fox, her son Robert
Pashuk (Brad McCarty) and her granddaughter Ashley Fox (Cody Reid).
Bev was predeceased by her parents, her sister Marion Rice, her brother-in-law Russell Rice and close
family friends Esther and Floyd Toomer.
