AUDREY JOYCE COOK
1930 ~ 2014
Audrey passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital in the early morning hours on Sunday, August 3, 2014.
Audrey was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and worked hard on the family farm at Stoney Mountain, Manitoba.
She fell head over heels for a newly arrived Scot, and they married on May 21, 1949. They immediately
moved to Lethbridge and resided here for 65 years. Audrey had a very strong faith and was a member of St. Andrews Church for 60 years.
Left to mourn are husband William “Bill”; daughter Margaret (Garry); two sons, Alexander (Sheila) and
Bill Jr. (Carmen); four grandchildren Patrick (Kelly), Nicole (Justin), Karen (Mike), and Jessica (Jake);
nine great grandchildren; brother Ted (Sandra) in Manitoba, and many family members in Scotland.
Audrey was predeceased by her parents, and eleven brothers and sisters.

BLACK FACE
(Long Time Medicine Pipe Woman)
1957 – 2014
It is with great heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of MARIE “BERTHA” BLACK FACE, of the
Blood Reserve who passed away suddenly at the age of 57 years old on August 1st, 2014. Creator has called
to home our mother, wife, grandmother and lifelong friend. She was predeceased by her parents Lawrence
and Janie Hairy Bull.
Bertha was born at the Blood Indian Hospital in Cardston, Alberta on March 6th, 1957. She received her
education at Red Crow College and Lethbridge College. In later years she became a counselor for the youth
at the adolescence treatment Centre located in Cardston, Alberta.
Bertha was well known for her outstanding personality, kind gentleness, and humour. She will be
remembered for the many times she brought humour to her brothers and sisters in the sacred society of the
Bull Horn Society, as she will be remembered fondly by offering much laughter to the most intense moments
of their important ceremonial teachings.
Bertha is survived by her loving husband, Homer Young Pine; children: Cheryl Conway, Elita Hairy Bull
(Arnold), Tamara Card (Jim), Gilbert Hairy Bull (Jessica), Natasha Hairy Bull, Renate Goodstriker, Coy
Black Water and numerous special grandchildren. She will be especially missed by her grandson “Shorty”,
whom she raised from infancy. Bertha is survived by her sister, Mary Louise Many Grey Horses (Norbert);
Brothers: David Striped Wolf (Evelyn), Phillip Hairy Bull. She is predeceased by brother, Larry Hairy
Bull and sister, Julia Shouting.
Bertha’s larger than life independence was to be admired. Bertha would never turn her back on anyone in
need and would never ask for anything in return. Rest now Bertha, your work here is done….

JOYCE PAULINE (DAVIES) MILLER
passed away in Cardston, Alberta on August 3, 2014. She was born in Bilston, Staffs, England on April
27th 1925. She married James Rex Miller on May 17, 1945 immediately after the war ended. She then joined
other war brides and moved to Canada. Joyce was pre-deceased by her son Grant (Jacalyn) Miller. Joyce is
survived by her devoted husband Rex and her sons Scott ( Jan) Miller of Red Deer, Craig ( Kathy ) Miller
of Edmonton, 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Cardston Alberta Stake Center (East Hill) on Friday, August 8th,
2014 at 11:00 a.m.

MIYASHITA
THOMAS SATOMI MIYASHITA of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Nancy, passed away at St. Michael’s
Health Centre on Monday, August 4, 2014 at the age of 87 years.
He is the loving father of Bruce, and Grace (Brian) Nicholson, all of Toronto. He is also survived by his
siblings: Mitsuo, Herb, and Joyce; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom lived a long and good life. He enjoyed jazz, sports, and especially golf, which provided some of his
best moments.
A special thank-you to the staff of the Home Care Team and Palliative Care Team and St. Michael’s
Palliative Care for their care and support.

MORKIN, John Michael “Mike”
July 28, 1948 – August 3, 2014
The good ones leave too soon. John Michael passed away peacefully at the age of 66, after an eight month
battle with cancer. He handled his circumstances gracefully, never angry or complaining and continued his
caring for others. Mike is survived and sadly missed by his wife Karen; his father Tom; his siblings,
Peggy (Bob), Bill (Margie), Tim (Aleili), and Barb (Todd). Mike is also survived by numerous nieces,
nephews and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Helen; sister-in-law Kerry;
niece Ketsy; and his faithful walking buddy Roscoe. A man of great compassion, there was never a day when
Mike did not have time for his family and friends and was always the first to offer help when needed.
Mike wore many hats throughout his business life which included Seismic, Farming, Esso Agent with his
brothers and his biggest passion, ranching. He dedicated his life to work and the care of all he knew. He
had many interests over the years: fly fishing, trap shooting, 18 hour drives, craps, golf (because he
liked being married), but his love of the land and the Porcupine Hills was lifelong. He now has time to
practice his passion for team roping, to ensure to his headers, that it will not be just another good
outing. Parishioners and friends kindly meet for Prayers at Christ the King Catholic Church (Claresholm,
AB) on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at the Claresholm
Community Centre (5940 – 59th Avenue W., Claresholm, AB) on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu

SILBERNAGEL
HAROLD SILBERNAGEL, beloved husband of Myrtle Silbernagel, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook
Regional Hospital on Monday, August 4, 2014 at the age of 73 years.
Harold is survived by his loving wife, Myrtle of 52 years, son Dennis (Lori) and granddaughter Stephanie.
He is predeceased by his son Dale Vincent in November of 1999, brothers Harvey in 1953 and Doug in 2010,
father in 1959, step-father in 1993 and mother in 2010.
After Harold’s father died, Harold left his mechanic apprentice job to become the man of the family,
returning home to take over the farming operation with his mother. After his marriage, he moved to
Calgary and worked for Otis Elevator and moved to Lethbridge as the local rep in 1978. He was highly
respected in the elevator trade and made many contributions to improving the trade and union benefits.
Harold’s career in the elevator industry lasted for 35 years when he retired in 1997.
Harold was always a loving and dedicated husband and father with strong principles and a kind heart. He
was always ready and willing to help anyone. He spent several years in the thoroughbred racing industry,
being the organizer and first president of ACTRA.

Friday, August 8, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Frank Peta officiating.

THOMAS “TOM” LOWTHER
1933 ~ 2014
Tom, beloved husband of Mildred, passed away following a short battle with cancer on Friday, August 1,
2014 at the age of 80 years.
Besides his loving wife Millie, he is survived by his sister Catherine Lynch of Calgary, brother John
(Diana) Lowther of Lethbridge, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews in Alberta and BC.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter Loretta Marie, parents John and Mary, brothers Joseph, Mark, and
William, and sister Martha.
Tom was born September 16, 1933 in Lethbridge where he attended Westminster School until he went to live
with his sister and family in Mystery Lake, Alberta; where he helped farm for 10 years. At the age of 21
he sold his horse and purchased train fare home to Lethbridge where he spent his remaining years. On
August 11, 1958 he married the love of his life, Mildred Smith whom he spent 56 wonderful years with. He
worked temporarily for the City of Lethbridge and then with Capitol Furniture for 37 years until ill
health forced early retirement. Tom and Millie spent many years transporting brother John to all his
hockey games and tournaments. He will be sadly missed by all his family.

She was predeceased by her children Ken Marose, Donna Buckley and Sandy Klinger; grandson Kyle Gustum;
parents Albert and Esther Sanderson; brothers-in-law Dennis Turin and Alvin Ell.
Ramona was born August 28, 1929 in Taber to Albert and Esther Sanderson. In 1946 she married Wes Marose
and together they had nine children. In 1969 Ramona met her beloved companion of forty five years, Vince
Leismeister and in 2013 they were married. Ramona worked for twenty years as a cook at the Taber
Hospital. She enjoyed baking, canning, sewing, making quilts and camping at Rattlesnake campground. Above
all Ramona loved seeing her family and always made time them. Ramona was a wonderful and loving wife,
mother, grandmother and friend. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed.
