DANYK
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of ROY PHILIP DANYK at home in Lethbridge, Alberta, on Tuesday, August 26th, 2014. Roy was born in Wood Mountain, Saskatchewan on April 4, 1931. Although he grew up in Regina, he spent many happy hours on his grandfather¹s and uncles¹ farms near Flintoff, Saskatchewan. He loved the outdoors even as a boy; riding his horse to school and back, and helping out with the farm chores. He was also a fun-loving youngster, which sometimes got him into deep trouble. He almost lost his leg due to a silly accident while jumping over a broom, but his family doctor managed to save his leg by replacing his entire tibia with a metal plate. When Roy was older, he always said he¹d gotten his injury from Brahma bull riding. Roy met and married the love of his life, Milli, in Regina in 1955, and they were inseparable for the next 59 years. They were blessed with one much loved son, Troy (Helena), and two beautiful granddaughters, Katie (12) and Kristina (11). He was predeceased by his parents George and Mary, brothers Dick and Tom, sister Ginny, and two special brothers-in-law, Joe Zbitnew and Eddie Johnston. He leaves behind his brother Derb, sister Sylvia, and a large extended family and friends. Roy started his retail career with Tip Top Tailors in Calgary in 1962, and rapidly advanced to regional manager. He moved his family first to Toronto, then to Edmonton, and finally to Delta, B.C., where they spent the next 36 years. Roy and Milli moved to Lethbridge in 2010 to spend more time with their beloved grandchildren, whom he loved and adored more than life itself. They gave him much joy in his later years, and they loved spending precious time with their loving Papa. Roy took great pride in his garden. As his neighbours in Delta and Lethbridge know, he spent every spare moment outside mowing his lawn, pulling weeds, moving plants, watering, and making his yard the talk of the neighbourhood. He enjoyed nature, too; he loved feeding birds and building bird “apartments” for his feathered friends. Roy will be remembered as a kind and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 4th, at 11 am at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 St N., Lethbridge. In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of Roy¹s giving nature, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
