Doris Laura Hyland (nee Childs)
Doris Laura Hyland (nee Childs), beloved wife of late Ron Hyland, passed away October 6, 2014 at Bow Island, AB with family at her side. Left to cherish her memory, son Alan and Dianne: Colin, Kevin (Megan) ­ Sam and Madeleine, Kyle (Sheena) ­ Burke, Weston and Parke; son Derek and Ann: Randy (Jennie) ­ Liam, Callum, Fiona and Abiageal; son David and Linda: Tanya (Mike) Sharpe ­ Tyler, Matthew, Ryan and Evan; son Robin: Kayla (Josh Brown), Kamille, Kara and their mother Lorraine; daughter Judy and Vernon Knapik: Justin (Misty) ­ Shae; daughter Liz Worley: Lauren and Gillian. Doris was predeceased by her husband, son Colin, grandson Robert, son-in-law Cam, brothers Alan and John, and sister Betty. Mum was born April 24, 1922 at Weybridge, Surrey, England, the first child of Harry and Lily Childs. Mum took on the role of caregiver to her younger siblings after her father passed away when she was five. She entered the workforce upon completing school at age fourteen and answered the call to duty, enlisting in the WAAF of Royal Air Force in April 1941. She was discharged March 1945, attaining rank of Sergeant. Mum met the love of her life, a handsome Canadian airman, at a Forces dance in Edinburgh, Scotland. They were married December 21, 1943 at Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, England. This marriage opened a new world to Mum, moving to Canada and arriving in Bow Island in May 1945. She persevered and prospered in the most important job as a stay-at-home mum, showing her children and grandchildren strength and resiliency throughout her life. Mum was an artist with needles, knitting and crocheting items that three generations will remember and cherish. Mum was an avid darts player, enjoyed bowling in later years, and thoroughly enjoyed Coronation Street and BBC shows. Mum belonged to Anglican Ladies Aid, Order of Eastern Star, and was a proud member of the Medicine Hat War Brides. Life Memberships were bestowed on Mum by the Bow Island Legion and Bow Island Ladies Auxiliary to the Legion and the Anglican Silver Cross. The funeral service will be held in the PATTISON CHAPEL (Medicine Hat) on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend Sheila McLeod and The Rev. Dr. David Carter officiating. A private interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. ROBERTS
JEAN C. ROBERTS passed away in Cardston on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the age of 89 years, beloved wife of the late Gordon H. Roberts. Jean was born on March 5, 1925 in Lower Millstream, Kings County, New Brunswick and was raised there. After completing high school in Sussex, she went on to attend nursing school in Saint John where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1946. While in training, she met her future husband, Gordon, who was in the Navy, stationed in Saint John during the Second World War. They were married on May 15, 1948 and soon after settled in Lethbridge, Alberta, where she worked as a nurse at St. Michael¹s and the Lethbridge Regional Hospital over the years. They started raising their family in Lethbridge and then moved to Stettler, where they lived for the next 13 years, then onto Black Diamond, living on a dairy farm, before returning to Lethbridge. After the passing of Gordon, she moved to Cardston to be closer to her family. Jean gave a lifetime of service to her family and friends. She was an avid quilter, knitter and a gifted seamstress. Her family benefitted from her talents and she devoted many loving hours to creating treasured quilts for her children and grandchildren. She served a Family History mission in Salt Lake City with her husband and enjoyed serving in the Temple for many years. Jean is survived by Ray (Carole) Roberts, formerly of Lethbridge, and currently Cardston, Judy (Ralph) Salmon of Cardston, Terry (Marianne) Roberts of Atlanta, Cathy (John) Schaffer of Cardston and Robyn (Mark) Jones of Dallas; 27 grandchildren, 76 great grandchildren; 4 siblings, Inez McMann, Hope Brown, John Walker of New Brunswick and June Cameron of Prince Edward Island. In Gordon¹s family, she is survived by Sheila (Don) MacLennan, Mary Pat Roberts and Margaret Henderson Roberts. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1994 and grandson Jordan Roberts. The Funeral Service will be held in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cardston Alberta West Stake Center (Waterton Hi-way) on Friday, October 10th, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Kendall Hardy officiating. ROWLEY
HOWARD EMILE ROWLEY, beloved husband of the late Mary Rowley of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, October 6, 2014 at the age of 87 years. He leaves to treasure his memory his children; Ken (Jo-Ann) Rowley, Dave (Lynn) Rowley, Karen (Rob) Campbell, Terry Rowley, Donna (Maurice) Lefebvre and Joy (Kurt) Otto, his grandchildren; Chandra, Nathan, Meaghan, Andrew, Shawn, Danielle, Courtney, Devon, Joscelyn, Lindsey-Lee, Chantal, Tanner, Chanel, Mathew, Kody, Jesse and great grandchildren; Kaylee, Brooklynn and Cylus. He is also survived by his sister Bernice, brother Paul (Lynn) and numerous other relatives. Howard was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 5, 1926. He lived his early life in Brandon, MB, working for the City Works Department. Moving west to join his grown children in Alberta in 1980, Howard worked construction, eventually retiring from Alberta Transportation in Lethbridge, Alberta. He was a loving husband of 49 years and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, nephew and uncle. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy and he enjoyed endless hours talking about them to everyone. Favorite hobbies were model railroading and travelling with his family. He had an outgoing personality and enjoyed meeting people. A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. MARTHA’S CATHOLIC CHURCH – 355 Columbia Road West, Lethbridge, Alberta on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Roque Pereira Celebrant. THOMAS GARY MARTINUK
Following a courageous battle with cancer this past year, we sadly announce the passing of our brother Tom in Vancouver General Hospital, Vancouver, B.C. on Oct. 3, 2014 at the age of 64. Tom was born on Dec. 27, 1949 in Lethbridge where he was raised. In his adult life, he resided between Lethbridge and Vancouver. He leaves behind his 7 siblings to mourn his passing: Karen (Tom) Smart, Gay (Bob) Sauerwein, Ted (Marlist) Sillito, Judy (Gary) Wojtowicz, Rhonda Hamilton, Tyler (Macket) Martinuk, and Randy (Wendy) Martinuk, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tom was predeceased by his father Nick Martinuk in 1975, and by his mother Ruby (Sillito) Martinuk in 2007. A private memorial graveside service will be held in Lethbridge at a later date.

Helen Florence Carlson, beloved wife of Harry Carlson, passed away in Taber on Monday, October 6, 2014 at the age of 90 years.
