Jannetje Van Sluys of Fort Macleod, beloved wife of the late John Van Sluys passed away on December 3, 2014 at the age of 89 years. Jannetje is survived by her children Dennis (Marion) Van Sluys, Henry (Tilly) Van Sluys, John (Gerda) Van Sluys, Gary (Brenda) Van Sluys, Linda (Don) Maclean, Joanne (Terry) Stevens, eighteen grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren, three brothers, and three sisters, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. A viewing will be held between 5:00 P.M. till 5:30 P.M. Saturday December 6, 2014 at EDEN¹S FUNERAL HOME, 2424 5th Ave, Fort Macleod, AB. Condolences will then continue until 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 P.M., on Monday December 8, 2014, at THE NETHERLANDS REFORMED CONGREGATION, 2608 ­ 7 Ave, in Fort Macleod. May 25, 1960 – December 1, 2014
HELEN GREAVES passed away peacefully into God’s arms after a long battle with cancer at St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit on Monday, December 1, 2014. With her was her loving husband Dale Greaves and her treasured puppy “Harley” waiting for her. Helen was the daughter of Joseph and Paulina Muller of Picture Butte. Helen’s last wish to celebrate her life was in privacy. She is to be buried at Mountain View Cemetery. “Forever and Always” is what Helen asked me to say to her each day, but yesterday she said to me, “If I can’t go forward, I want to go back,” and God answered “Yes”, to her Prayer. In lieu of flowers, say a nice word to loved ones or do a random act of kindness.

Mrs. Joanne Scholdra of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Roman Scholdra, passed away on November 29, 2014 at the age of 83 years. Joanne was born in Carmen, Manitoba to Hjalmar and Geneva Oss. She lived in rural Saskatchewan until grade 8, then she moved with her mother to Saskatoon to go to school. She graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in nursing, and went on to get a Master¹s Degree in Nursing, and a PhD in education from the University of Washington. She became the first director of nursing at the University of Lethbridge, setting up the degree program in nursing there, then working and teaching there until her retirement in 1990. Joanne is survived by her daughter Elke Scholdra. Besides her loving husband, Joanne was predeceased by her parents Hjamar and Geneva Oss.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd. W., Lethbridge, AB, with Pastor Nathan Fuehrer, officiating.

ROADHOUSE, DOUG
The family of Doug Roadhouse is sad to announce his passing on Friday, Nov. 28, 2014 at the age of 81. He died peacefully at his home in Lethbridge. Doug was born in Calgary on July 14, 1933. He is survived by his daughters Karen Fossati (Al), and Lori Roadhouse Haney (Ted); and his grandchildren Krystina Fossati, and Joelle, Kesinee and Douglas Haney. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 34 years, Irene; his second wife Maxine; his parents Lloyd and Dorothy Roadhouse; his brother Stan and infant sister Margaret; and only six months ago, his youngest daughter Jan. Doug started school in Calgary, but the family moved to Longview during his Gr. 1 year. They relocated to Lethbridge in 1941, where he attended Westminster Public School until Gr. 8, and then LCI for high school. As a young man, Doug was an avid hockey, football and baseball player. He signed with the NY Rangers in 1949-50, and was the property of the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950. He continued his love of hockey as part of the Lethbridge Oldtimers Hockey until he was 61. He was one of the original shareholders of Henderson Lake Golf Club, and played key roles on the executive and in starting the Junior Golf program. Doug was a devoted member of the B.P.O.E Lethbridge Elks Lodge, which he joined in 1962, and rose through its ranks to become the District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, and then served as the President of the Alberta Elks in 1977. He retired from AGT in 1988 where he¹d worked since 1957. It was there that he met the wind beneath his wings, Irene Lough, whom he married in 1958. Doug and Irene shared a passion for travel, among other things, and together they golfed and holidayed their way through Canada and the US. They enjoyed many winters in Maui, and later in Mesa. They also travelled to Burma when Lori and Ted lived there, and saw many other countries in the region. After Irene died, Doug went on an amazing Around-The-World trip, returning to marry Maxine, with whom he spent winters in Yuma and Cuba. Doug also volunteered his time teaching seniors to drive with the AMA, and with the adults with disabilities swim program at the Nicholas Sheran pool. Doug was a true Lethbridge son, sacrificing many opportunities to raise his three loving daughters in this city he loved so well. Near the end, he often commented that he¹d lived a good life, and considered himself among the lucky. MRS. PATRICIA ISOBEL SELIN, beloved wife of Clifford Selin, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully into God’s arms after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s for over the last 8 years, on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014 at the age of 86 years. In loving memory Mrs.Patricia Isobel Selin, who was a dedicated wife, loving mom, nana and great-nana. Patricia was born Mar.3, 1928 in Sault Ste. Marie to Doreen Piche and Emile Desjardins. She predeceased her older brother; Serge Desjardins. She married the love of her life Clifford Selin on July 3, 1952 in Hearst, Ont. They had 7 children; Ken, Karen, Dan, Donn, Deborah, Ruth and John (deceased.) Patricia will be sadly missed by her family, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grand children. COLIN STIRLING of Milk River, beloved husband of Mabel (McFadden), passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday morning, December 3, 2014, at the age of 76 years. Colin is also lovingly remembered by his daughter Lynda, son Wayne (Kathy), his five grandchildren; CJ “Colin”, Tara (Matt), Scott, Jordan and Roxanne, his great-grandson, Liam, his sister Maureen (Dan) and extended Stirling family. He is also survived by many members of Mabel’s extended family including her son Brent (Dawn) and their children and the Niblock, McFadden and Mueller families. Colin was predeceased by his parents, Colin and Dorothy Stirling and his infant son, Scott. Colin was born in Kirn, Scotland and in March 1956, came to Canada with his family. He was an active member of the Milk River Golf Club and the Milk River Businessmen’s Association. A Memorial Service will be held at the MILK RIVER CIVIC CENTRE, 321 – 3 Avenue NE., Milk River, AB., on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. with Marion Martin officiating.

MRS. ANNEKE (ANNE) VANEE passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at the age of 80 years.
Anne was born in Sleeuwijk Netherlands on September 16, 1934. She was the second child of nine children born to Bastiaan and Johanna Ouwerkerk. The family immigrated to Canada in 1950. Anne married Jo Vanee May 27, 1955 and they were blessed with four children. Anne was predeceased by Jo on October 4, 2007. Anne is survived by Verna (Ken) Greidanus and their children; Angela (Scott) Van’t Land (Noah, Caleb, Eden and Moriah), Erin (Jonathan) Norton (Charlotte, Benjamin, Olivia and Rebekah), Bethany (Jim) Vreugdenhil (Seth and Amaya) and Krista, Joyce (Ron) Sakamoto and their children; Jeremy (Robin) Sakamoto (Alexis), Shawn (Carrie) Sakamoto (Parker, Quintin and Lennon) and Sasha (Scott) Mahan (Lachlan and Cadan), Ron Vanee and his children; Jonas, Justin and Jordyn Vanee and Bonnie (Mike) Jarokosky and their children; Jennifer (Stephen) Martyn (Kaden), Shane (Heather Emerson) Jarokosky and Tyler Jarokosky. Anne is also survived by her beloved brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. A Family Interment will be held at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 9:00 A.M.
