ELKJAER
1922 – 2015
KETTY ELKJAER (nee OLSEN), of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Kaj Elkjaer of 73 years, passed away at the Fairmont Extendicare on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the age of 92 years. Besides her loving husband Kaj, she is survived by seven children; Liss (Don M.) Kundich, Kurt (Thelma) Elkjaer, Karin (Don) Fung, Linda (Bob) Copeland, Peter (Janet) Elkjaer, Sonja Sinclair and Darren (Carie) Elkjaer, grandchildren Robert, Marty, Monique, Shane, Stacey, Martin, Kathleen, Michael (deceased), Nigel, Justin, Ryan, Kerri, Scott, Tamara, Krista, Taylor, David, Jennifer, Daniel, Cayla and many great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren. Our parents emigrated from Denmark in 1950. They settled in Coutts in 1953 and started a poultry farm. In 1968, they retired and moved to Lethbridge, opening their home to many needy and homeless children over the years. Our mother always believed there was always room for everyone. “If there’s heart room, there’s house room.” Ketty enjoyed needlepoint and knitting. She donated hundreds of booties, mittens and caps to the hospitals for newborns and mittens and scarves for the Salvation Army. Our parents were married for 73 years and our grandmother said, “It would never last.” This was a statement our mother frequently told us, especially on their anniversary. They loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed travelling. Our mother was honoured with numerous accolades in her life, but one of the most significant was receiving the “Lady of the Year” award in 1977 by the Lethbridge Beta Sigma Phi. Mom has requested no funeral. In lieu of a service, we request that those of you who knew Ketty, please enjoy a cup of coffee, dessert and share memories with loved ones. Mom we love you and look forward to seeing you again.
…is Thursday good for you?

Winslow Elliot “Dutch² (Buckskin)
Spear Chief
Traditional Blackfoot Name – O’takohkitopii
(Rides Around)
February 9, 1980 – March 2, 2015
Our loving son, brother, father, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend, Winslow (Dutch), was called home on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the age of thirty five. Dutch was born to Monica Spear Chief and Leslie Buckskin Sr. on February 9, 1980 at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital. He was raised on the Blood Reserve in the Fort Whoop Up area. In his early years, Dutch attended the Lakeview Elementary School and Gilbert Patterson Junior High. In 2000, he completed his upgrading at the Mount Royal College and then attended the Red Crow Community College and completed several computer technology courses. In 2005, Dutch began the Criminal Justice Program at the Lethbridge College and due to health conditions, he regretfully withdrew from the program. Dutch worked with the Blood Tribe – Public Relations Department as a summer student and in 2009, he began his current employment at the Blood Tribe Youth Ranch. It was at the Blood Tribe Youth Ranch, Dutch found his true calling. He treasured working with the children and his co-workers became his second family, as Dutch had a unique relationship with each one of them. Dutch, his parents and brothers were active participants with the Sundance ceremonies which became second-nature for Dutch as he understood the values of respect for the traditional protocols. As a child, family members would volunteer to braid Dutch’s long, thick and beautiful hair at the Sundance while his parents were attending ceremonies. Several years ago, Dutch made the honorable decision of joining the Brave Dog Society and was an active member – as his older brother, (late) Leslie Jr., was before him. His children, Keenan and Kyann, were Dutch’s world. He tenderly took on the role of fatherhood with the birth of each of his children; they loved playing basketball with their father and enjoyed all the meals he lovingly prepared for them. Dutch’s hobbies included reading novels, writing short stories and movie plots and watching movies with his children. He also played guitar and was a well-known gamer! Dutch is survived by his children, Keenan and Kyann; his mother, Monica (Adolph); his brothers Foran and Bradley (Tracy); nephews, Nealim and Brayden; his aunties, Gertrude (Tom), Alma (Martin), Emma (Len), Gloria, Margaret and Carolyn (Kevin) Spear Chief and Marina, Geraldine (Ike) and Maryann Buckskin; his uncles Melvin (Merle) and Kelvin Spear Chief; Eric (Nina) and Jasper (Gabrielle) Buckskin. He was predeceased by his father, Leslie Buckskin Sr. and brother, Leslie Jr.; his maternal grandparents, Allan and Isabel Spear Chief and his paternal grandparents, Reggie and Gladys Buckskin. Also his aunties, Rita and Lorna Spear Chief, Freda Buckskin and numerous relatives. Kitaakitamattsin O’takohkitopii, Farewell Dutch, we’ll meet again… from your children, family members, co-workers and the “Fort Whoop Up Gang”. A Family Service will be held at the Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Wednesday, Mar. 11th from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The Wake Service will be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve on Wednesday, Mar. 11th from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve on Thursday, Mar. 12th at 11:00 a.m. Interment in St. Paul¹s Cemetery, Blood Reserve.
