Jean Moreland
1933 – 2015
Our hearts are broken and it seems as though even the angels are weeping. A beautiful, gentle soul left this earth and entered the garden of the Lord. Our angel, Margaret Jean (Jean), beloved wife of the late John Moreland, passed away in Auckland, New Zealand on March 8, 2015 while on vacation in Fiji. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Charlene (Jarel Nelson), Joanne (Harry Critchley), Beverley (Tim Gross); her grandchildren Bradley and Alyssa Critchley, Brodie (Kerry), Colton (Jenny) and Sydney Gross and one great- grandchild, Kinley Gross. She also leaves to mourn her passing her brother Ken (Shirley) Markland, her sister Audrey (Jack) Fetzko and their respective families, and many, many friends. Mom was born and raised in Fernie, B.C. She moved to Lethbridge to attend the Galt School of Nursing graduating 1956. While there, she met the love of her life. John and Jean were married on a snowy day in Fernie on January 12, 1957. For 33 amazing years, they together experienced the ups and downs of life on the farm, raised and educated a family, discovered the paradise of winters in Fiji and established a wide-reaching circle of incredible friends. Through all of the many memorable family trips whether to Waterton, Disneyland, or Fiji, touring with the antique car, hauling us around to horse shows, snowmobiling, or just keeping us all well-fed and watered, Mom was an enthusiastic participant. After Dad’s passing in 1990, she remained on the farm until October 2014, when she moved into her beautiful condo in Lethbridge. She loved her family unconditionally and was proudly supportive of all our endeavors and achievements. She would always see the bright side of things and had a way of making those around her feel special. Her concern and compassion for others was heartfelt and genuine. She was as strong and independent (yes, I do want a new car!) as she was gentle and thoughtful (are you sure you’re O.K?). She enjoyed her gardening, especially her flowers, which always seemed to respond to her gentle touch and TLC. She was fond of cross-word puzzles and Sudoku (gotta keep the mind up!), liked to watch the birds especially the owls fly through the trees (just not in the house please!) and appreciated phone calls and visits from friends and family. She was a beautiful and dignified woman who celebrated life each day. We all miss you more than words can say.
We love you mom.

Alexander was born on March 5 1924 in Felnemet, Hungary, where he lived until 1938. At the age of 14, Alexander immigrated to Canada with his mother. They reunited with his father in Raymond, AB, where they all worked together as laborers, until the time they could purchase their first parcel of land at Stewart Siding. In 1946, Alexander married (Mary Ramias) and together they raised five children. Alexander retired in 1980 and spent several years travelling back to Hungary, 6 months at a time. Eva Alma Marie Richard was the 13th child from a family of 17. She is survived by her brother Armand Richard and sister Irene Wilkinson. Eva moved to Alberta and married Steve Sawchuk in 1952.Together they farmed and raised their family in the Sunnyside district. Later in life she worked at Canbra Foods, retiring in 1998 after 27 years. During her time at Canbra, Mom became Vice President of the union. While in her role as Vice President, she advocated for equal pay for all women. She was extremely proud of earning her GED when challenged to keep her job. She insisted that all of her nine children complete high school and obtain a driver’s license. These things were very important to her. Her motto was “always take pride in your work no matter what it is and do it to the best of your ability†Mom left the farm and moved into Lethbridge to live with her daughter Stephanie. Mom had a welcoming heart to everyone, her door was always open and the coffee on. The rare times she spent alone, she would pass the day with prayers, crossword puzzles, or getting caught up with distant friends and relatives on the phone. Mom will be remembered for her favourite saying “I may not always be right, but I am never, ever wrongâ€. Eva touched our lives with a warm smile, open arms and unconditional love in her heart. She stood strong with dignity and grace. She took life in stride, embracing the happy moments along with the sad. She often saw the value in people that others never knew they had. Giving more than she had, without question or reservation. Eva’s devoted faith in God assured He would provide for her. It’s all those she leaves behind who feel the deepest pain and sadness. We are all at peace knowing she is now with God and with her loving Mother. In Eva’s own words “I was very close to my mom. After she died, I spent my time longing for her, and dreamt of her a lot. Even though my day dreams took me to faraway places, my heart took me home to the old homestead where in my heart, I still belong.†Mom is now resting in the arms of the Angels and Saints, and all of those she loved that left before her.
