She was predeceased by her husband Heino Kallio and parents Lawrence and Elsie Handley.
Pat was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and as such was a devoted Roughrider fan her entire life. She studied nursing in Rosetown, Saskatchewan and was a nurses aid at Pioneer Village in Regina for many years. Pat and her husband Heino farmed in the Tantallon area, raising both grain crops and cattle.
Pat was known to be a devoted, loving, generous, determined and fierce force in the lives of those she loved. Rarely was she the quietest person in the room, without an opinion and was always looking for the humour in the best and worst of situations. “You gotta laugh” was one of the frequently used phrases in her vocabulary. She was always a source of unwavering support when needed and her courage in the face of all the illness she faced has served as a profound life lesson for all who loved her.
Our Family would like to take an opportunity to thank many people who cared for mom (and us as well) over the last years. We would like to start with Dr. Torrie, the staff at the Associate Medical Clinic and the Taber Hospital who have cared for her many times. We also are grateful to the staff at the Jack Ady Cancer Clinic and the late Dr. Shane Mortimer for the exceptional skill and kindness they showed during her battle with cancer. Additionally, she was blessed to have had wonderful staff looking after her at Clearview Lodge, Extended Care and Linden View as well as Ed Cullen and Jackie Allic from Community Care. Many of you were far more than care givers beyond your job description, many of you really cared about her and made her feel loved at times when things were not very good. We are grateful to all of you for your efforts and thoughtfulness.
