On the morning of Sunday, August 30, 2015, MAGDALENE MARY BACZUK, of Milk River, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital, at the age of 92 years.

A Funeral Mass will be held at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Milk River, Alberta on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Benedicto Tugano IV, Celebrant.

Fumi Inaba
1919 – 2015
 Fumi Lynn Inaba (nee Shirakawa) wonderful mother, caring grandmother and great grandmother and devoted wife to Mas until his death in 2009, passed away in Calgary on Monday, August 31, 2015.
 Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, September 4, 2015 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.

 Fumi is survived by her seven children Frank (Toseko-“Dimples”) Inaba of Lethbridge, Nancy Uchida of Ottawa, Dan Inaba of Lethbridge, Larry (Lori) Inaba of Calgary, Janet (Shig) Tamikado of Calgary, Ron (Wendy) Inaba of Leduc and Michael (Tracy) Inaba of Vulcan as well as twenty grandchildren and great grandchildren.
 She was predeceased by her infant daughter Tina Inaba, brother Takeshi Shirakawa, sister Sayoko Murakami and son-in-law Elbert Uchida.
 Fumi was born in Mission, British Columbia the middle child of three. Fumi married Mas who came from Japan to work on her parents’ farm in 1937. A forced evacuation in 1942 brought the couple to Alberta with two small children. The first part of their life was one of extreme hardship but the latter part for both of them was filled with many happy, joyful and fulfilling moments with many wonderful friends and a growing family. They enjoyed golf, curling, karaoke parties, dominoes and traveling with their many friends to places like Hawaii and Las Vegas.
 Fumi enjoyed gathering with her eight coffee lady friends at A&W. They would meet monthly with their two for one coupons. She was a wonderful seamstress who was proud of  her certificate of achievement in dressmaking. Fumi sewed school clothes for her children and many bridesmaid dresses.  Her mind was still sharp while living with her daughter and son-in-law Janet and Shig in Calgary. Fumi would go for daily walks, made more than fifteen kimekomi dolls, did Sudoku and jig-saw puzzles and played a competitive game of dominoes.  
 She will be lovingly remembered by her children, extended family and many friends.

Ethel Irene Herbst

1923 – 2015

Mrs. Ethel Irene Herbst of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away at the Legacy Lodge on Monday, August 31, 2015 at the age of 91 years.

Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 7:00PM, on Friday, September 4, 2015, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4th Street South, Lethbridge.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM, on Saturday, September 5, 2015, at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CHURCH, 2405 – 12th Avenue South, Lethbridge, with Father Lukas Drapal celebrant. A private family Inurnment was held at Warner Cemetery.

HOPP

Passed away in Lethbridge on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, MRS. JANICE EDITH HOPP, at the age of 73 years, beloved wife of John Grant Hopp of Lethbridge.

Born on March 17, 1942, Janice was raised and educated in Lethbridge, where she graduated from the Galt School of Nursing in 1963. She was married to Grant on November 2nd of the same year. Janice was employed as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years, working in the Municipal Hospital and later moving to the new Lethbridge Regional Hospital where she worked until her retirement.

Janice was an active member of the Galt School of Nursing Alumnae and very much enjoyed participating in alumnae projects and connecting with her former classmates and colleagues over the years, keeping the memory of the Galt School of Nursing alive.

Following her retirement, Janice continued being a caregiver, always offering a helping hand to her friends and neighbours who were so special to her. She loved working in her yard and especially enjoyed the beautiful roses in her garden. Janice also loved her pets and was particularly fond of her Boston Terriers over the years.

Besides her husband, Grant, Janice will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her daughters, Bev Hopp and Dianne (Richard) Kurina of Lethbridge; her identical twin sister Joan Peters, of Chilliwack, B.C.; as well as some special cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur Roland Day and Doris Edith Day (nee Frayne) and also by her beloved sister, Adrienne Day.

At Janice’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. A private family Graveside Service was held. Those who wish may donate in loving memory of Janice to the Galt School of Nursing Alumnae, c/o Paulette Low, 1710 – 17 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, T1K 1A8 or to a charity holding special meaning in their heart.

Mrs. Joan Janasak of Taber, beloved wife of the late Mr. Frank Janasak, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the age of 83 years. Ernest Leonard Siemens

1928 – 2015

Ernest (Ernie) Leonard Siemens of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Eleanor Siemens, passed away at the Edith Cavell Care Centre, on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the age of 86 years.

During his teaching career; Ernie taught school at Sunset School near Nanton, the Morley Indian Residential School, Nanton Consolidated, Wilson Junior High, and Agnes Davidson Elementary School in the Lethbridge District. In his retirement years, he worked for the Salvation Army.

It was Ernie’s delight to help his students learn and he was involved in many extra-curricular activities like chess, photo and science clubs. For hobbies, he avidly pursued photography and collecting butterflies. He is probably best remembered for his church work, broad smile and his Stetson hat.

Ernest is survived by his daughter LeeAnne (Gary) Dyck; sons Dwight (Rachel) Siemens, Allen (Janice) Siemens, and Lauren (Nancy) Siemens. At the time of his death, he had 8 grandchildren and 3 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Walter and his sister Alma.

Besides being predeceased by Eleanor, his wife of almost 60 years, Ernie was predeceased by his parents George and Anna Siemens, and his brother Ben.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the COALDALE MENNONITE BRETHREN CHURCH, 2114 – 18 Street Coaldale, Alberta, with Pastor Gary Burke officiating.

A Private Family interment has taken place prior in the Coaldale Mennonite Cemetery.

TOMIYAMA

DOREEN (LEHMAN) TOMIYAMA, beloved wife of Murray Skelding, of Fort Macleod, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, August 31, 2015 at the age of 72 years.

She is the loving mother of one son Brent (Lisa) Lehman and two grandchildren Breanne and Brady Lehman of Lethbridge.

Doreen is also survived by Murray’s children, Pam (Richie), Michael (Nicole), Dannielle, Nicole (Aaron) and grandchildren Robbie, Courtney and Denise.

She was predeceased by her parents Willy and Mabel Lehman and three grandchildren Bret, Brentson and Alisa.

A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Jerry Hofer, officiating.
