HANSON

It is with great sadness that the family of FRANCIS JOHN HANSON announces his passing on October 18, 2015 at the age of 76, in St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre in Lethbridge.

A Memorial Service will be held at the ENCHANT COMMUNITY HALL – 127 Center Street, Enchant, AB, on Thursday, October 22nd, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Jeff Frostad officiating.

A Private Family Interment will take place at the Enchant Cemetery.

CHRISTIE JAMES HEALY, beloved husband of Lorraine Healy, passed away in Lethbridge at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the age of 41 years.

Francis “Frank” Kenna

1927 – 2015

Francis “Frank” James Kenna, beloved husband of Phyllis Kenna of 64 years, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the age of 88 years.

Frank was born in Chatham, New Brunswick. He was an accomplished outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, and above all, he cherished his family.

He was a loving father to his children; Margaret, Wayne (Kim), Dennis, Gary (Token), Joyce (Greg), Irene (Wayne), Lorraine, Jim and Darryl (Sherry).

He is survived by his loving wife, children, fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sisters Mary, Carmel, Rita and brothers John (Mabel), and Bert (Rita), and numerous nieces/nephews.

Frank was predeceased by six siblings.

A Celebration of Life is to be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the COAST HOTEL with family words at 2:00pm.

Joyce Lord

1933 – 2015

Joyce Mabel Lord (nee Forrest) passed away in Coaldale on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the age of 82. Joyce was born March 2, 1933 in Saskatoon, SK to Harry and Pearl Forrest (nee Goodmurphy). She married Albert William (Bill) Lord at HMCS Naden, in Esquimalt, BC on March 30, 1951.

Joyce excelled at a variety of crafts, whether it was hand sewing 1000 sequins on a dance outfit, making Halloween costumes that won first prize, creating stained glass gifts for her family or stitching intricate beaded angels.

Moving often as a Navy and Air Force wife, she enjoyed meeting new people and made many friends on both sides of the border. Joyce’s career started at BC Hydro as the youngest bookkeeper, and continued as Manager of Sarber’s Ladies Wear in Moose Jaw, SK and later at the Treasury Branch in Taber. Following her retirement, she enjoyed exploring in the motorhome, winters in Arizona and her lucky trips to Vegas.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bill Lord, also of Lethbridge, her children, Sharon (Jerry) Lagace of Boston, Bob (Sheila) Lord of Salmon Arm and Debbie (JD) Moore of Lewistown, MT. She is also survived by her angels, her grandchildren Carrie & Josh, Tracie & John, Shaun, Chad & Caroline, Lindsay & Jon, Amanda, Jaime & Wade and Corey and her 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Marjorie.

A service celebrating her life will take place at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 23, 2015 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4 Street South.

The family requests no flowers, and asks instead that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society (#402 740 4 Ave. S., Lethbridge, AB T1J 0N9) or the charity of your choice.

Thank you to the staff of 5B at the Chinook Regional Hospital and the Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale for the kindness shown to Joyce and her family during her short struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Alice Schenk (Nee Wevers)

1932 – 2015

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. – 1 Peter 5: 6-7

On Sunday, October 18, 2015, the Lord welcomed into his arms his devoted servant, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Alice Schenk, at the age of 83.

Alice was born in the Netherlands to John and Willemina Wevers. When she was 19 years old, Alice immigrated to Canada with her family and has resided in Lethbridge since. She was a devoted member of the Christian Reformed Church. Alice worked as a retail manager at various locations such as Woolco, Stewarts Ladies Wear and Shirley K Maternity. In her retirement she actively volunteered at Bibles for Missions thrift store.

Alice married Joe Schenk in 1954 and they had 3 sons together. She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Rob & Karen (Jeremy & Dawn, Gary, Kevin), Jim (Kirsten, Kerri, Kelsey) and their mother Maggie, Wally (Braeden) and his mother Rhonda, (Tiffany, Kevin) and their mother Margaret. Oma Alice is also survived by her precious great grandchildren, Kayla and Emily Schenk, and Ainsley Schweitzer.

Alice is also survived by her siblings, Rita & Corny Biesbroek, Gerry Wevers, Anne & John Lubbers, Ben Wevers,Sylvia Wevers, Dick Wevers, Lynne & Chuck Haines, Nellie & Elroy Nieboer, John & Brenda Wevers, Martin Wevers, Mike & Helen Wevers, and brother-in-law John Vos. Also thankful for the ongoing friendship of Bill & Elaine (Schenk) Krikke. Alice was a special Auntie to numerous nieces and nephews.

Alice was predeceased by her parents, John & Willemina Wevers, her siblings, Jackie Poole, Berna Vos, Aleida Konynenbelt, and her in-laws, Willy Wevers, Arie Konynenbelt, Alan Poole, Henny Wevers, Peggy Wevers, and nephew Tommy Wevers.

A private family viewing will be held from 6:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday, October 22, 2015. Friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00pm and 8:00pm on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4TH St. S., Lethbridge.

A Graveside Service for family members will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Mountain View Cemetery.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, October 23, 2015 at MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 260 McGill Blvd. W. Lethbridge, AB with Pastor Tony Maan officiating.

VAN WIEREN

BENNIE VAN WIEREN, passed away at the St. Michael’s Health Centre, Palliative Care Unit, on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the age of 62 years.

Bennie is survived by his sisters Grace Andre (Don), Rose (Larry) Myers and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Abeline and Ben Van Wieren, Sister Shirley “Squirrel”.

Ben was a loving brother and uncle, born in Holland and came to Canada with his parents and siblings in 1958.

He loved to be outdoors, camping, and sitting by a campfire while drinking a Budweiser. Ben spent a lot of time with family and friends.

Ben worked for McNally Contractors for many years, thoroughly enjoying every minute of it, everyone he worked with took a liking to him almost instantly.

The family of Ben would like to thank Andy and the Coaldale EMS, nurses on 4C, Melissa from home care, and all the staff and doctor’s at St. Michael’s Palliative Care for their care and compassion.

At Bennie’s request no formal funeral service will be held, he only asks that you have a beer in memory of him.
