BRIAN BRADFORD PROVOST

(1960 – 2015)

It is with great sorrow that the family of Brian Bradford Provost announce his passing on Monday, November 23, 2015. Brian was born on March 10, 1960 in Pincher Creek to Mary Crow Eagle and Charles Provost.

Brian was the proud father of his five children; his three beautiful daughters: Neena (Lance) Yellow Face, Suzanne (Ashley) Crazy Boy, and Tia Big Plume; and his two handsome sons: Brian Jr. (Sunshine) and Tristan. He was also very proud of his grandchildren: Ayesha (Tye), Raven (Ryan), Cole, Wyatt, Chloe, Jayce, Mikayla and Brodi; and his special great grandchildren: Xaiden, Kylie, and Zavier and his loving wife Debbie One Owl; his loving siblings: Gilbert Provost, Geraldine Thunder Chief, Diane (Del) Healy, Charlene (Roger) Houghton, Debbie (Frank) Provost, Gloria Provost, Lucille (Robert) Provost, Chuck Provost and Charles (Bev) Provost and Eloise Provost; his numerous nieces and nephews and his adopted brother Darwin Short; and his first wife, Beverly Crazy Boy, the mother of his children.

A family service will be held at 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at the Snodgrass Funeral Home in Pincher Creek. The two-day Wake will begin Thursday at 6:30 pm at the Gilbert Provost residence and continuing Friday, November 27, 2015. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 28 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Brocket with Fr. Silvano Vargas, Celebrant. The interment to take place at the Provost Family plot, Brocket.

BUCHAN, Jean

With great sadness, we announce the death of Jean Audrey Buchan. Jean passed away Monday November 16, 2015 at the age of 66 years. She was born in Lethbridge Alberta, January 16, 1949. Jean is survived by her sisters Edna (Peter), Evelyn and brother Andy (Susan). She also left to mourn nephews and nieces Byron, Tara, Sarah and Matthew, great niece Kinley, as well as numerous aunts and cousins. Jean was predeceased by her parents Hugh and Phyllis Buchan and brother David Buchan. Jean will always be remembered as an avid golfer who volunteered many hours organizing charity golf tournaments at the Fernie Golf and Country Club and the Henderson Lake Golf Club in Lethbridge. She skied, curled and loved watching hockey. She had a love of travelling to faraway places and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Jean will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at Cherished Memories Funeral Home “Serenity Chapel” – Fernie, BC on Saturday,

November 28, 2015 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation – 4 – 1551 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC V1Y 9M9.

Robert Firth

1955 – 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Barry Firth on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre at the age of 60 years.

GILLESPIE

HAROLD W. GILLESPIE, beloved husband of Margaret Gillespie, of Lethbridge, formerly of Winnipeg, passed away unexpectedly at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the age of 68 years.

Along with his loving wife Margaret, he is survived by his mother Shirley Gillespie of Winnipeg, his sister, Shirley Gillespie and brother Doug (Barb) Gillespie, mother-in-law, Julia Harding and brother-in-law, Doug (Donna) Harding. Harold will be deeply mourned by his children Tracy (Jim) D’Angelo of London, ON, Jennifer Selland of Lethbridge and stepdaughters, Heather (Norbert) Klatt of Winnipeg, MB, Christine (Cameron) Campbell of Alonsa, MB and Adrienne Laramee (Jordan Ingram) Tyndall, MB. He is also survived by his five precious grandchildren, Rebekah Selland, Timothy Selland, Rachel Selland, CJ Campbell and Nicole Campbell. His three nephews Shawn Gillespie (Pervin), Chris Gillespie and Justin Gillespie aka Cupcake will miss “Cuddles.” Harold will be mourned by many other family and friends. Harold was predeceased by his father Bill Gillespie. Harold was born June 14, 1947 in London, Ontario. He began a career with London Hydro where he was employed for over 32 years. After his time in Ontario Harold then ventured out west to begin a new chapter in his life. It was in Winnipeg where he met Margaret and they had an instant connection where shortly after they were married on June 20, 2002. He then started a career with Petro Canada which eventually resulted in his relocation to Lethbridge. Harold was a compassionate, genuine man who truly adored his family and friends. He was witty, humorous and always appreciated a good joke. Harold had a passion for travelling with Margaret, country music and a good stiff drink. Harold was loyal, patient and always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be sadly missed.

An intimate family interment will be held in Winnipeg in the near future.

Pete Grieser 1929 ~ 2015

Peter Louis Grieser, beloved husband of Edie Grieser, passed away in Taber on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at the age of 86 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, November 27, 2015 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.

Whitelaw of Lethbridge, Donald (Brenda) Grieser of Burnaby, David Grieser of Burnaby, Beverly (Mark) Fester of White Rock and Bruce Grieser of Galloway, British Columbia; grandchildren McKay, Tyler, Landon and Casey Wood, Dustin Bonetti, Delaina Bonetti (Jessie Gregory) and Drayden Whitelaw, Riley and Jenna Grieser, Lesley and Taylor Fester as well as five great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his daughter Joan Wood, son-in-law Brent Wood, parents Louis and Ann Grieser, sisters Hilda Miracle and Kay Banks.

Peter was born to Louis and Ann Grieser on October 28, 1929 in Vanguard, Saskatchewan where he grew up and moved away at seventeen. He ended up in Creston, British Columbia where his older sister resided. He met Edie at the age of nineteen while working as a surveyor at the Mines and Resources in Canal Flats and they were married in Cranbrook, British Columbia in 1950. They moved to Coronation in 1952, working for Atlas Lumber Company. In 1953 they moved to Hays where he ran the lumber company and in 1954 moved to Piapot, Saskatchewan where he managed Atlas Lumber Yard. In 1963, they moved to Taber where the last of their seven children were born. He worked at the lumber yard until 1969 when he became employed with the Taber School Division where he became shop foreman. He was a jack of all trades and there was nothing Pete couldn’t fix. He retired in the fall of 1991 and they spent time in Arizona and the Bahamas. Pete loved to fish, hunt and painted many scenery pictures. Pete had a debilitating stroke in 2005 that changed his life significantly. He’s now at peace and up there fishing with his buddies.

CHASITY PLUME, of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Friday November 20, 2015 at the age of 39 years.

A Family Service will be held at STREETS ALIVE MISSION – 323 4th Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, on Friday, November 27th, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. – 5:30 P.M.

Following the Family Service, a Wake Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta from 6:00 P.M. – 10:00 P.M.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. MARY’S IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH – Blood Reserve, Alberta, on Saturday, November 28th, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Pawel Andrasz O.M.I., Celebrant.

Sister Anne Cecilia MacNeil

MacNeil: Sister Anne Cecilia, 96, a Sister of St. Martha of Antigonish, died at Bethany, motherhouse on Thursday, November 19, 2015. She was in the 56th year of religious life.

Born in Iona, NS, Sister Anne Cecilia was the youngest of ten children of the late Alexander P. and Mary (MacLeod) MacNeil.

Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha on February 15, 1957, pronounced her first vows in 1959, and made perpetual profession of vows on August 15, 1962.

Prior to entering the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha, Sister Anne Cecilia was employed by the Canadian Naval Service which brought her to Halifax and Sydney, NS, Ottawa, ON, and Montreal, QC. She received a Certificate in Placement and E.R. Advisory from the U.S. Air Force, University of Denver. During these years, she was employed by the U.S. Air Force which brought her to Goose Bay, NL and Greenland.

Following her entrance with the Sisters of St. Martha, Sister Anne Cecilia ministered in the main office at Bethany motherhouse and at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay, NS. After completing training through the Catholic Hospital Association in both Hospital Personnel Management (April 1963) and Hospital Organization and Management (May 1965), Sister Anne Cecilia began nineteen years of Hospital Administration at St. Martha’s Hospital where she was Assistant Administrator for the next three years. She then went on as Administrator in Mineral Springs Hospital, Banff, AB (three years) and back home to Antigonish, NS at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital (seven years). Following a year of renewal, Sister Anne Cecilia was Administrator at the R. K. MacDonald Nursing Home (six years). Once retired from her work as Administrator, she continued reaching out to those in need by serving in Parish Ministry at Assumption Parish in Lethbridge, AB and Christ the King Parish in Trenton, NS. Returning to hospital ministry, she was Director of Pastoral Care Mineral Springs, Banff, AB. Her last years in active ministry were spent at St. Martha’s Hospital and Bethany, offering the skills of her lifetime wherever needed.

For all who knew her, Sister Anne Cecilia was ever a proud Scot and a gracious lady. Her sense of responsibility in ministry was often lightened by the anticipated joy of a trip to Iona. She will be fondly remembered as an eager learner ever ready to share her giftedness with others.

Sister Anne Cecilia was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by six brothers, Norman, Malcolm, John, James, Dan, and Angus and three sisters, Mary Anne, Cecilia, and Alice. During her long illness, her life was deeply enriched by the faithful presence of her two nieces, Pauline and Betty.

The remains will be resting at Bethany, beginning Friday, November 20, 2015 at 1:15 p.m., where a Celebration of Vigil will be held on the same evening at 7:30 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Bethany Chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Curry’s Funeral Home, Antigonish.


Gepke Slomp

1921 – 2015

The family and dear friends of Gepke Slomp (nee Koops) are saddened to announce that, on the evening of November 22, 2015 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Gepke went to be with her Lord and Saviour. She was just shy of her 94th birthday.

Gepke was born in the Smilde, Netherlands on November 28, 1921. She immigrated to Canada to marry Tim Slomp in Iron Springs, Alberta in 1949. They worked together on their farm in Coaldale until Tim’s passing in 1983. Gepke remained on the farm renting out her land until, after 62 years, she moved to Lethbridge in 2011. Gepke lived a contented life, by the grace of God. She enjoyed her evenings with her friends, playing games and socializing. She was a determined and hardworking woman, devoted to her Lord and her church.

Gepke was predeceased by her loving husband, Tim Slomp, brothers Dick, Wieger and Henk Koops, sister, Willemina (Mini) Joustra, in-laws, Henry & Grace Deunk, Evert Borkent and Henny Dronkelaar and Rolenius Joustra. She is survived by her brother, Harm Koops and sister, Reik Bouman and many nieces and nephews in Holland. Also surviving her is John Joustra (Anita, son’s Christopher, Jesse & Loren) of North Vancouver, B.C., Harry Joustra (Judy) of Kelowna, B.C. and Debbie Joustra-Pel (John Pel, Amanda, Elysha & Cameron) of Burnaby, B.C.. Gepke is also survived by sister-in-law, Jenny Borkent of Brooks, Alberta, brother-in-law John Slomp (Agnes) of Brooks, Alberta, Henry Dronkelaar of Picture Butte, Alberta and Henry Slomp (Willemien) of Picture Butte, Alberta and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by special friends, Gerrit & Norma Van Dewal, Casey Verschoor, Riet Scheffer and nephew John & Val Deunk

The family of Gepke would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Black Rock Terrace Senior’s Home, Alberta Ambulance Services, Chinook Regional Hospital Emergency Department. Special thanks to the Doctors and the nursing staff in ICU for their wonderful care during her short stay. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Riet Scheffer and Gerrit Van Dewal for their loving devotion to Gepke over the past years.
