DOIG
GEORGE STANLEY DOIG, welcomed by his beloved wife Peggy, peacefully returned to the arms of Jesus Sunday November 22, 2015 in Cardston, Alberta.
While a young man George joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a volunteer reservist. His work during WWII as an artificer, onboard ship, laid the framework of his career as a steam engineer. His family admires his dedication to excellence as he became a first class engineer without formal educational training. In his work as chief he was known for his fairness to all, leadership and strong work ethic. He was active in the Institute of Power Engineers and found joy in chatting and chumming with those he served and worked with.
George was a kind man and always a gentleman. He shared a firm handshake. While a young father George joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in his faith. He worked in the scouting program for over 20 years. George enjoyed making friends of those he met and was loyal in those friendships. He stayed active in camping, dancing, bowling, and curling clubs.
George loved his family and regretfully leaves sons Lister (Lorraine), Paul (Sheron), daughter in law (Sharon), daughter Shelley (Hal) Winters, and sister Auddie Taylor. We will remember the twinkle in his eye, his endearing smile, his artful skill in gift opening, but his squishy bear hugs will be missed the most by his children, 20 surviving grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
George leaves with his family a rich legacy of faith and wisdom. With his near photographic memory he has influenced our lives with his poetic recitations. His example of addressing life’s challenges with courage, determination and strength will empower our heritage for generations.
In his advancing years George longed to be reunited with loved ones who have predeceased him. As he “Loves us and leaves us,” he rejoins wife Peggy, son Ronald, Grandson Bradley, parents Paul and Ada, his brother John, brother-in-law John Taylor and many other family and friends. Dad you have arrived, “Home again, home again, jig-idy-jig!” Friends meet the family at Legacy Funeral Home in Cardston on Sunday November 29, 2015 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm., or from 12:00 to 12:45 pm. prior to the service.
The Funeral Services will be held in Calgary, November 30, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7017 California Blvd NE, Calgary. Interment in Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
